Making a move soon, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Hwy 89A thru Jacob Lake, or Hwy 89 via Page/Kanab is the best route to take with a 16' truck pulling a vehicle. I've been on 89, but never 89A, so I was hoping for some input from anyone familiar with these highways. Thanks

It might make a difference if your trip is during the Winter. 89A through Jacob Lake gets into higher elevation than 89 via Page. Use google map terrain view to see the topography.

These roads are all fine during the summer although as said above there may be some winter closures. You're certainly getting in the area where closures are expected, like for example the road out of Jacob Lake headed south is closed every winter although I don't know exactly where the closure is.

You should state your points of origination and destination since there may be better routes than the one you've assumed.

I've driven all over, back, up and down that area (the AZ strip) during my camping. I love it!

I'm going to Washington from Flag, and I-5 thru Cali is out cause it's Eastern Wash not Western, and Vegas route is way out of the way. I'm aware of weather issues, my biggest concern is road quality and service available if I have any truck issues. I've done 89, jsut never 89A and was wondering if it was a viable option or not.

Hwy 89 thru Page was built to good standards in the late 1950s during construction of Glen Canyon Dam....there is an incline just beyond Bitter Springs as you climb toward Page, but I think it has a passing lane headed uphill.....

89A thru Jacob Lake is slower and not nearly as straight....

you'll also have to contend with the various options for getting over to I-15 in Utah from 89, if that's your destination.....UT 20 is a good choice, but check for construction or weather closures along that 20-mile stretch of UT 20 over to I-15
