OMG...I am extremely nervous now about moving to Casa Grande. Even though our children are grown, and do not live with us these stories are frightening. I believe every city has its share of crime and bad neighborhoods, but is it safe at all there???? We will be relocating in 2008..moving to the outskirts..way outskirts..and quit frankly i'm not sure if it's a good idea! If anybody has anything GOOD to say about CG please post. I would much appreciate it. I will be working at the hospital. By the sound of it the reputation is poor also.....

For OP and previous poster, have you considered Red Rock Village? It's a master-planned community being built by Pulte homes and is about as far south from Casa Grande as Maricopa is (maybe a touch longer).

I have a few friends who have bought homes there because they are extremely affordable, might be an option if you want to get a bit out of town.

Here is a site-plan
of the community. It's not much now, but neither was Gladden Farms in Marana when it first started out a few years ago, and they are planning on opening a Fry's/McDonald's/Wells Fargo/etc in April!

Check out the difference in price for the same house.

Jackson
http://www.pulteaz.com/red_rock_vill...g_families.htm

Verde
http://www.pulteaz.com/SierraMorado/series_lamesa.htm

$96,000 difference. Sierra Morado claims......

.....provide residents with an environmentally friendly homes and community, but without you having to pay extra for it.

So, what are you paying extra for, location? There could be a big difference in the commute to work depending on where you're employed.

Red Rock seems to have a much better community center and park, especially if I want to ride my skateboard.
And the schools in Red Rock are within the neighborhood. Vail schools have a good reputaion, but Red Rock schools are getting better every day.

What do you think it is that can warrant such a big difference in price?
Pima County vs Pinal County?
Tucson vs Red Rock?
Could there be that big of a difference in impact fees?
The cost of land?

Hi Outofillinois

You asked people to post anything positive about Casa Grande... Here goes Please don't be too concerned about the recent reports of 'gang-warfare' here. I have lived in CG for 3 years and were it not for recent postings in this website, I would not have even realised a 'gang clean-up' was necessary. The fact that the district has been proactive in eradicating crime early on is a good thing and should not deter you from moving here - quite the opposite Also - I would disagree about the supposed 'slums', 'horrible weather', 'indigent people' (?!) and bad medical care. It is easy to be negative about anywhere if you want to be. Casa Grande is not Scottsdale, but it has many good qualities that should be considered by people looking to relocate.

Casa Grande is a relatively quiet town compared to Phoenix and Tucson, and well-connected in comparison to Queen Creek and Maricopa. It is growing quite rapidly and there are new shopping complexes and strips going up all the time. Have you seen this: http://www.promenadeatcasagrande.com/ ? The city is changing and a new demographic is emerging with higher average incomes and different needs from a few years ago. This is driving demand for better retail outlets, schools and medical centers, which in turn attracts more residents who continue to alter the demographic. See http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/071116/laf044.html?.v=101 (broken link).

There is certainly less 'to do' if you like a vibrant night-life, but for those looking for a slower pace it still offers quite a lot. My perspective (which I mention since someone urged people from 'nice middle class cities or better' to avoid CG!) is one of a Brit who has moved here from a 'nice, middle class (or better!)' part of south-east England, near Windsor and 30 minutes outside London. CG already has some good places to eat such as Chilis and BeDillons, there are 2 Starbucks, a Greek coffee shop / restaurant, a new wine bar called Corks which is by all accounts pretty hip, Olive Garden opening soon, as well as Cost Plus World Market, Dillards, Bed, Bath & Beyond etc etc... These major retailers don't open up a store without doing a lot of work on projections for the demographic of a place. (Does Dillards target people from the slums? Hmmm...)Historic Downtown is being redeveloped and already has nice antique stores, art shops, a theatre...in a year or two it will be a very pretty place to browse around for a few hours.

Even though you do say your children are fully grown, I would add that several new schools have opened / are being built - in fact some of the local schools now get quite high ratings, such as Mary C O'Brien (a little on the outskirts), Desert Willow and Casa Verde: http://www.greatschools.net/city/Casa_Grande/AZ. Of course, not all the schools are brilliant so research is a good idea. And as with ANY city, bear in mind some areas of town and outskirts are 'less savory' than others (it's not hard to tell which! ). There are homes to suit all budgets, from $100k condos to $500k+ communities, $1m plus gated developments, 55+ golf communities, and so on. Not really the characteristics of a 'slum town' in which residents fear for their lives every time they set foot out the door...

Don't be scared of coming to Casa Grande, it's an exciting time to be here, the community is very friendly and you can really enjoy a good lifestyle here.

EB

I know the whole valley thoroughly. Casa Grande is a boom town with the new upscale mall and custom homes. Maricopa is planning new roads to I10 and homes values are expected to rise 50k per home with the new roads and Super Walmart (so you better buy now). The cowpoop smell is no worse than in Gilbert a year ago and with the roads and business expansion, cow farms are expected to move. Your best bet is buy a resale house in North Maricopa City where the smell is already gone and you are nearer I10. Did you know that the median home income is higher in Maricopa City than in Scottscale? Maybe it is because there are no apartments there.

Just don't live in the west valley unless you want an air conditioner on your roof. No one likes the run down side of town, really, and they seem to be jealous of our growth in Pinal.

According to the info on Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed, the household income in Maricopa is $37,462. The household income in Scottsdale is $65,841. The per capita income of Maricopa is $12,106. The per capita income in Scottsdale is $44,597.

There is a world of difference between these two cities and Maricopa could not possibly have higher incomes than Scottsdale.

Where did you get your figures?

It's a very boring town (Casa Grande). They only have 1 bar/pub in the entire area. It's best if you go somewhere a little bigger and with more things to do.

I read in one of the posts (sorry I don't remember which one) that if you move to Casa Grande you should not move south of Florence Blvd. As I was checking out school districts based on AIMS achievement, the Palo Verde school district is the highest ranked. But it is located from Florence Blvd south with most of the communities above Jimmie Kerr. Would this be a good area to move to. I'm not interested in "night life", I hate bars. So my only considerations are schools and crime.

Default Casa Grande schools

Hi 1phwalls

This might help you:

Casa Grande

Casa Grande's elementary and middle schools' attendance boundaries can be downloaded as PDFs at the end of the page. If you then go to GreatSchools.net you can cross reference attendance boundaries with school ratings, as well as looking at the 'AZ Learns' assessment above the PDF links.

Casa Grande Union High Schools' District site is here for further info on the senior schools: Casa Grande Union High School District. There is another High School ('Desert Vistas', I believe) being built on the corner of Cottonwood and Arizola. Construction there has started. Again, GreatSchools.net could help with further info.

Hope this is useful
Emma
