Anyway, it's still a small town, and I will agree that you won't find top-notch specialists in every single medical discipline. That being said, KRMC and the new hospital MedCath are bringing in some excellent specialists from around the country. So it's only going to get better.

Good luck with your decision, and as the esteemed Arizona Bear so eloquently puts it, "follow your gut".
kdog and Arizona Bear---decided to not take the Kingman job and am staying in Tucson. I like it so far.

I hope it's not bad etiquette to jump in on this thread. I have been browsing the threads attempting to gather as much "grass roots" info about the area as I can. Born and raised in the humid environs of rural Illinois, I have always enjoyed visits to the SW. I'm looking at an open position at KRMC, initial stages, and was wondering what the bicycle commuting environment was like in Kingman. We are in NorCal right now, and have been in a great bicycle town, that has no jobs, so still do the car commute, and would like to locate where biking to work most days is possible.

Hi Nucdon,

I bicycle for exercise 25 miles, four times a week or so except when the weather is bad. On the whole, I find the traffic very courteous of bicyclists. You do get the occasional jerk. However, it's not nearly as bad as San Jose, CA was when I lived there. Many cars in this town have a "Share the Road" decal across their rear windshield in support of bicyclists, and there are signs with the same wording on many of the main roads as well. That being said, there are almost no bicycle lanes in town. That's because most of the streets are old. However, they did put in bike lanes on a new section of one main road (Bank Street), so maybe that's a trend. There's also a decent bike path that may or may not help your commute depending on where you move to. You do see a fair amount of both sport and commuter bicyclists. There are two really good bike shops in town. One specializes in road bikes, and one mountain bikes. They're both very honest and fair and good mechanics. One thing that may take getting used to is the wind. I've learned to look at is as part of my workout. And, hopefully you realize that typically it's either very hot here, or very cold. Enough said there. Overall things are pretty good here for bicyclists.

Very hot or cold?

Phx is hotter yet and Flag is much colder than Kingman.

Ok I am back in town, been in Montana. Now that was cold on the 9th we woke up to 30 degree's and frost on the truck.
OK back on track
I agree Kingman is bike friendly, even for the ones who ride the wrong way with traffic.

nucdon pm has been sent

Thanks kdog, 108 here now, although we also have lots of 80's and 90's, with only lows in the 30's here in Red Bluff. We would probably be looking to locate within a mile or two of the hospital, based on good housing availability. We will likely come out that way in 2-3 weeks to get boots on the ground, so to speak.

Default Cold? Hot? Bugs?

I have to laugh about comments on "hot" and "cold" in every forum I read, wherever it may be in the country. Hot and cold are such completely relative terms. People complaining about how absolutely frigid Kingman or Albuquerque is. I lived for years in Utah and Colorado and thought I knew what cold was until I moved to Nebraska! Yet, there are two more states and a whole country farther north!

I was looking at the possibility of relocating to Kingman but the guy with cockroaches has scared me off! Are cockroaches a pretty common problem there?
