Anyone Live in Show Low or Snowflake?
I'm getting a divorced and I will be moving to Show Low within a couple of months and would love to hear from some of the locals. What is Show Low like? Are there any Non Mormon churches? I will be looking for a good church. Do they have a Washington Mutual Bank? Do they sale Roman Meal Bread there? Silly I know but it is my favorite bread and hoping I don't have to do without. I'm finding it hard to find a place to rent too. Anyone know of any property mangement companies that handle rentals? I'm also looking for someone who teaches watercolor painting. Something I always wanted to do while married but my husband thought it was a stupid waste of money.. HAHA

OK, I will try to help but I am not a totaly current expert on Show Low, I use to live there but now live near Holbrook 45 miles away.
Show Low is what a quiet Mtn. summer area use to be like but is growing too fast for that anymore. Most of the residents are quite friendly, there are many non mormon churches.
NO they don't have a Washington Mutual bank, the ones thy do have are
BANK OF AMERICA www.bankofamerica.com
1301 E Deuce of Clubs, Show Low, 85901 - (928) 537-7425
National Bank www.nbarizona.com
902 E Deuce of Clubs, Show Low, 85901 - (928) 537-2933
Stockmen's Bank The www.stockmensbank.com
240 S White Mountain Rd, Show Low, 85901 - (928) 537-2440
They are all within about 1/2 mile of each other at the main intersection in townat the bottom of the hill on the E end of town.
Yes they sell Roman Meal bread there, at all of the markets I am sure as I get it here in Holbrook.
As for the rest of your questions I am to far out of date to be able to help you much on that BUT I think that these will help you with those questions.

Hi! I'm in the area- we lived in Show Low for about 1.5 years, then rented out our house and moved about 45 minutes south. There isn't a Washington Mutual, but there is BofA, Stockmans, and Chase, as well as a credit union (anyone can join). As far as I know, all the grocery stores sell Roman Meal There are plenty of non-LDS churches! I think all the denominations are represented: Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Seventh Day Adventist, and some "generic" Christian Churches. There is also a Unity church.
Check out our local paper www.wmicentral.com for rentals. What are you looking for? There is a property management company that advertises in the paper, Pinetop Realty I think....I know there are more houses than apartments to choose from.
Kinda funny, we are moving from here to the San Diego area (Oceanside) in May/June...we're swapping places, lol!
Let me know what else I can tell you
Kristi

Oh, I know an art teacher who would love to teach you watercolors! You might also try looking at Northland Pioneer College, they might have some classes (they have a website if you do a search). There isn't much in the way of adult community classes here....not like in a "real" city.

So what is the name of the art teacher? Hope you like Oceanside. I know I will miss San Diego. Wish I could afford to stay here.

Moving to Show Low
I might be moving to Show Low within the next couple months, from Florida (originally from Oceanside, CA - "it's a small world afterall". We have 2 small children. What does Show Low have to offer for the little ones? Weather? Shopping?
Looking forward to hearing from anyone.

We live in Snowflake - actually just east of town about 10 miles. Show Low is beautiful but pricey and booming as far as building goes. You won't find a decent home on a small city lot for much less than $250K. We used to live in Oceanside for 10 yrs!! Love Snowflake area but for family reasons plan to move to Macon-Warner Robins, GA area as soon as we sell our home on 20 acres (have private well, lots of planted trees, garden area). Prices here very stable and growing past few years - not the hyperinflation prices they had in Phoenix.
Weather right now is perfect - mid-70s. No humidity. Nice breeze. Shopping in Show Low getting better all the time, new Lowes and Olive Garden coming in soon next to the Home Depot and super WalMart. Great little Waldo's BarBQ place just opened behind KFC. Great little coffee shop located at the Thunderbird Motel called Coffee Mania - about best coffee around and specialty drinks - located on Deuce of Clubs just west of Branding Iron Restaurant. Rentals hard to come by but there are some if you look hard enough. Not a lot of good paying jobs up here. Most people are retired or have second homes. Winters do get cold but very manageable.

So, we are now in Oceanside and I like it so far Looking for a decent rental has been challenging, though.
Anyway, for kids, Show Low/Pinetop has mostly outdoor stuff to offer. Tons of hiking, a skate park, good parks like Woodland Lake. The parks & recs districts are lacking in my opinion. They do offer martial arts and sports, but not much, if anything, for preschool age kids. There is a mom and me style music class in Pinetop, and that's about it. The new movie theater in Pinetop is nice and ticket prices are affordable.
The weather is bad in the winter. Not as bad as the midwest or east coast, but cold and snowy. It was tough for me and my little one, as there isn't any type of indoor playground or place to go except the McDonald's playland and Walmart. If you like snow and skiing and such, then you'll be fine. If you hate the cold like me, it might be challenging
Shopping....there is WalMart and Safeway for groceries, as well as a small health food store. For clothing there is a Beals Outlet (like Ross or TJ Maxx) and JC Penny.
Hope this helps!
