You must be made of money to want to live in those areas!
If you are worried about costs anywhere near Flagstaff is no place to be, as it cost 50% more than the Phoenix metro area.
If you want to live in N. Arizona try Kingman, (Kind o warm in summer) or Winslow, Holbrook, St. Johns, or maybe Showlow but it is kind of high also.
Snowflake/Taylor isn't too bad as of yet but getting up there some.

Winslow will have the highest crime rate of all of them due to the state prison just south of it. (Parents and kids following prisoners)
Schools are what you and your child make of them, if they work at it they can be very good. If they want to slide by then they can do that also.
One of the best schools around northern Arizona is in Joseph City, (10 miles W of Holbrook 20 miles E of Winslow) as they push the students for education.

Almost plus they have to pump their water from more than 3000' underground.
There was only one grocery store there when I was there for 6 months working highway construction in 1998 a Safeway store and it priced the food the same way, VERY HIGH!

Joseph City is barren and mostly LDS. Williams on west side of AZ has real water problems and a well will cost a fortune. Holbrook is a dying down with a little industry starting to come in. Winslow is starting to grow but still very barren. Snowflake are is nice, about 50% LDS, but most are friendly - just don't start a business here if you're not LDS as they won't patronize you. Great place to raise kids and live in the country tho. Water table is one of best in state.

Show Low is beautiful but pricey, pricey, pricey!! Gets pricier as you go towards Lakeside & Pinetop. You pay dearly for those pine trees!!!

I have a home and 20 fenced acres near Snowflake with private well for $285K to give you an idea.

The public schools in Flagstaff are absolutely worthless. My son will graduate from HS on Friday, and his teacher told the class last week that she was ashamed of the quality of education that the students get in this district. For a teacher to say that to a classroom speaks volumes IMO.
Housing costs are through the roof. Bellemont and Mountainaire are both nice, but pretty spendy.

Have you thought about Bullhead City? It's 90 mins south of Vegas, and 5 minutes from Laughlin, Nevada. It does get hot there during the summer, but the rest of the year is beautiful. I currently have a house for sale there. Advise if interested....I can direct you to the virtual tour.

rambrush will become famous soon enoughrambrush will become famous soon enough
I would suggest going into Parks and Bellmont area, drive old route 66 poke and prod there is several places for sale back in off the Hwy. Yes you might have to have water hauled in and or go off the grid for power. No big deal
Very beautiful areas in there.

Once again sitting at the computer is not going to be the best bet. You have to go looking to find the perfect site.

So many here with way to negative input. weigh the pros and cons of what you require.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?! Bullhead City is one of the ugliest places in the US!!!! Summers are hot is right, try 115 as a regular summer day from June to September. Its horrible there, I don't know where you got the idea that Bullhead City is a nice place. Anyways I'm from Flagstaff, graduated from Sinagua High School last year. Yes, the education is pretty bad, but the environment is good. I also got into University of Colorado no problem so as long as your kids can keep thier grades up college admissions shouldn't be a problem. Houses are very expensive but surrounding areas of Flag are a lot cheaper. They are also putting up a lot of nice apartments and townhomes lately which aren't that bad. Any questions about Flag let me know.
