Lived in Kachina Village, drove daily to East Flagstaff. The only "traffic" is evening drive home, especially Friday nights. Other times it was nothing compared to city or even "Flagstaff" traffic. If there's a accident, the alternative route is from the Mountainaire side of the freeway, thru the under pass and you can make it all the way to Wally world if you wish.
Snow.....we had one early (4am)morning commute that took 45 minutes, this with a 4wd suburban....of coure we were halfway into town before we heard that the freeway was closed, no wonder the traffic was light. Most winter mornings it's clear, dry, our front wheel drive car did just fine in normal snowy conditions, no biggie. Although, the little hill from the convenience store up into Kachina village can be slick sometimes. We always worried more about Elk on the highway than snow. And my 2 cents re;kachina village or Mountainaire....Mountainaire is much prettier, less hiway noise. Doney Park seems to sit in a area that gets consistently heavier snowfall than just a mile either way. I drove a truck daily, going thru Doney Park on the freeway was sometimes like a whole different world re;snow accumulation, road conditions. Once you get past it a mile or so...no biggie either north or south bound.
