Can anyone give me some info about Douglas, Arizona ? Would Douglas be a good place for a single person to live ? How about a person with children ? How is the shoppping in Douglas ? How are the people in this small town ? How are the schools ?

Douglas is on the Arizona/Mexico border. I would avoid it like the plague.

S - OH MY GOD, if you have small children, DO NOT MOVE TO DOUGLAS, AZ. It is right on the border - not safe at all. There are so many nice places to live in Arizona and have your lovely children. Lehi is right. NO NO NO.

oh my god! The main reason you guys give not to live in Douglas is its a "border town". I don't think you can offer helpful advice living in South Tampa and Texas thousands of miles away. I suggest visiting for yourself and speaking with the locals. Stay a couple of days and do some research from within the city limits! I visited Douglas for a week and it seemed very small and slow moving kind of town. The locals were very nice they even invited me over to their family cook-out. The weather is great compared to Phoenix. But thats all I can tell you I only stayed a couple days. Please visit for yourself.

I'm gonna agree with the majority here, Sandoval.
Considering the number of great places in Arizona, why would you even consider Douglas?
In addition to being an UNSAFE Border Town, it is basically a Dead End and definitely no place to raise a young child.
Shop around . . . you can do better in all aspects except for maybe Illegal Drugs.

Well, I live in AZ and I can certifiably say that I would never live near a border town and that goes double if I had children. I was in San Luis on Labor Day weekend. The whole place smelled like urine, hundreds of ratty-looking men sitting on the sidewalk, I have no idea why, trash everywhere and run down buildings. You can always take your kids to see that stuff on a day trip, if you just want to show them how a lot of the rest of the world lives. But it's not how I'd choose to live, especially given the incredible beauty of the rest of AZ. My mom took my sister and me to Ciudad Juarez when I was about 10 around 1981. I went back there a few years ago and couldn't believe my mom had taken us there. I've seen a lot more of the third world in my travels since then and have no desire to live near it.

I have been to Douglas once and felt that I was in Mexico..........suffice to say: I was offended that when I walked in a Circle K and the clerk could not understand what I wanted due to his inability to speak English.
To the OP: take a hard look at Sierra Vista; it is about 30 miles away from Douglas and is a dfferent world. Read that it is culturally American.

I just want to point out that this thread is two years old, and the OP hasn't been seen since. But please carry on.

YO NU-B, I just moved to Tampa from Arizona in December - lived in Phoenix for many years. Made the transition from AZ to FL right here on good ole CD. Look. Douglas bites. It will always bite. It's great for a hobbit. Have visited Douglas at more length than your "measly couple days." Talk with the locals? Yeah, OK - I've been drunk with the locals. A result of talking at length with the locals. Now what were you saying again about my helpful advice?
