"Sedona, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Jerome, Cornville, Rimrock, and Camp Verde."
Question -
Which one of these areas has the most pine, pinon, and juniper trees?
Which one looks the most like "the desert"?
(I'll be coming through in October with my camera, but if someone can tell me ...)
Opinions?

I would say that uphill from Jerome has the most Pine, Pinion and Juniper. It's on Mingus Mountain. Also the area from Flagstaff to Sedona is all forest area with the trees you describe.
Camp Verde would most look like the desert, overall but that's "High Desert" we're talking about and not low desert with saguaro cactus and such. Take Hwy 260 through Camp Verde and it's all high desert until you get up the Mogillon Rim about 20 mi. Then it too turns into pine and pinnion and juniper.
You can get some good shots of the typical desert area if you drive on 89A from West Sedona to Cottonwood. It's about 16 miles of a clear scenic desert vista.
If you have a good vehicle you can take the Beaverhead Flat Road out of Village of Oak Creek and find high desert country. There are lots of dirt road turn offs into the desert on Beaverhead Flat Road.
Hope this helps.
Edit to add......
I notice you'll be coming from SoCal. That means you'll take I-17 out of Phoenix when you turn North. You'll see low desert with saguaro cactus up until Black Canyon City. At Black Canyon City you have a radical elevation change and the saguaros will disappear. Once on top of the canyon you reach Sunset Point and all travel from that point on to the Verde Valley will be high open desert. There will be many opportunities to get off an exit and take desert vista pics.

Thank you, mohawkx! Reps to you!
(Actually I'm picking up my sister who lives between Parker and LHC - so we may take 40 east and then south on 89 or 17. We're on vacation and we like to wander. Would rather skip Phoenix [I don't big cities] all together )

Because of my interest in wildlife,am quite familiar with this event.Without knowing more, would be willing to bet that business at that saloon has picked up since that night, with folks wanting to visit the place where it happened. That bobcat and bar made the news nationwide, and Cottonwood got lots of free publicity.

You're absolutely right. Tourists come in from all over the world and ask, "Is this where the Bobcat came in"? There is a "Rabid Bobcat" drink. I don't know what it is as I don't drink but I hear that if you drink one, you need a series of shots for 6 weeks. The owner bought a very large stuffed bobcat that sits on a shelf to your left as you walk in the door.

We are relocating to Sierra Vista (Hereford) also. I sent you a friend request so we discuss what we learn - if you're interested.
I am also grateful for all the information received on these areas. Very helpful!
