Hi. I stumbled on your post when looking for real estate in Phoenix. I live in Kingman. Initally I too was hesitant due to the isolation here. I have been here 16 years and I really do like it. It stays 10 -15 degrees cooler than Phoenix but we do have wind. There is year round hiking. In the summer we all go to a great mountain range called the Hualapai's which is heaven. In the winter we hike out in the desert. There is a lot of hunting here and lakes near by. There isn't much culture but there are great people here. The hospital community is known to be tight and sticks together socially. There are some downsides and if you never have lived in a small town this could be quite shocking. It would help if you cook as great places to eat here are not so plentiful! Do you have any specific questions? email me at Julieinmohave@yahoo.com

Not too isolated really. 90 minutes to Vegas, 60 minutes to Lake Havasu City, 40 minutes to Bullhead/Laughlin.
What do you like to do? Personally, I like to explore the southwest. Kingman is in an ideal location for doing that. We have a fantastic mountain park where you can find trees and cool air in the summer. There are all the off-road trails you can imagine, if you like that sort of thing. You want the Opera, Symphony and modern art museums? 'Fraid you're out of luck there.

Well, there is that. I think the kind of people who do well out here are the kinds of folks who make their own things to do, without relying on the town to spoon feed it to you. In our case, we definitely did put a priority on a space to enjoy backyard living. No regrets.
Thanks, Spidey. How's Press-kit?

I would have to ask what are you into? As posted there is a ton of things to do. Mostly outdoor activity's from hiking to softball leagues to geocaching the river is not far away. The bass pro shop is about 100 miles up in vegas, REI is a tad closer If you drive a Toyota you have to drive to Havasu or Henderson to get it serviced. As for the opera shows and that its all avalable in Vegas or Phoenix.

My personal favorite is antique shopping. The community college has solid Ceramics and Jewely classes if you like that. The baseball/softball leagues seem pretty popular. Lots of people own horses. Off-road vehicles. Hiking. If you are looking for nightlife (dancing, clubs, bars) you might consider the other two cities in Mohave County which are about an hour commute from Kingman but it's an easy drive (not a traffic jam).

Don't believe all the negative feedback about Kingman. I just completed an interview there and to my surprise my wife loved the area (especially after looking at the homes in Lazy Y U). She's from Miami, FL, but hates the big cities. We'll give up fine dinner and malls for a home with 10 acres and no traffic jams anyday.

I wish my wife liked Lazy YU, but it's a bit too isolated for her. It's definitely not an easy place to be a soccer-mom, and you don't just zip out for a quart of milk. But you can't beat the wide-open spaces and spectacular views from up there.
