Hello!
My husband is originally from Tucson and I am from Cincinnati. We are currently living in Cincinnati, but want to relocate to Arizona. My best chance of finding work, because of the field I'm in, is in Phoenix, but we want to be relatively close to his family in Tucson. I've been looking at cities that are about halfway between Tucson and Phoenix and am wondering if anyone out there can tell me about any of them or add to my list... Eloy Arizona City Casa Grande Coolidge Red Rock (is this just an area rather than a city?) Please help!! |

If you’re going to work, you my not find “any” jobs in the small towns you mentioned. If you have to be employed then live in Tucson or Phoenix and live nearby where you work. Family and friends are important but you won’t be spending time driving back and forth each day to visit them like you will when you go to a job. Gas is high and going up and it never gets back down to a price that you’ll live with, traffic is heavy during rush hours each day. You don’t want to drive 30 minutes or more into Tucson or Phoenix each day to see the employer.
Small towns are nice to live in but they are very limited if people who must be employed outside the home. |

The drive time for any of those towns will be really bad, to drive into Phx at least.

Thanks to all for your replies!
How bad is the traffic in Phoenix? What if I live in Chandler and drive to Scottsdale for work? Will that still take a long time? My husband and his family are trying to persuade me to live in Marana. They say it will take an hour or so from Marana to Scottsdale. Marana seems like a very nice place with a good school district, but I'm concerned that it will be much more than an hour. Where I live in Cincinnati, it takes me 35-45min to drive back and forth to work every day. I'm okay with this much travel time, but too much more will be pretty ridiculous! Thanks again! |

Marana to Scottsdale 1 hour? That's not going to happen. You'd be better off in Casa Grande, which splits the difference but is still about an hour commute to Scottsdale. Maybe look into Maricopa, but I still think that's far for a Scottsdale commute. I think you're better off in Chandler. Still easy access to Tucson. You need to come for a visit and drive things before you make any decisions.
Off topic, my husband is from your area, and his brother still lives in Mt. Healthy. Do you know where that is? My husband's last house was in Westchester, and he used to be the GM of Busam Nissan. Small world, right? If you come out here get in touch with me! Do you know how to play cornhole? We just got our first set and are addicted!!!!! |

and in their car trying to get just a few miles down the freeway in rush hour they change their minds and move. Gas isn’t getting cheaper and over the years of driving to work, you could save that money and put it to a house payment and leave nearby a work location. If you’re going to work in Scottsdale ~ live in Scottsdale! The Cincinnati trip of 30-45 minutes isn’t too bad but you don’t want more and I assure you in the next several years that driving times will be increased even more do to traffic! There simply isn’t enough room for cars to “park on the freeways” anymore, and the side streets are no better. People park at stops lights and wait out the over 7 and 8 changing of red / green lights before they can cross the intersections. Some are worse then others but overall its not good. |
