Page, AZ
I will be moving from my downtown Seattle apartment within the next year or so. I'm looking for a more ideal place to settle. A place that is not over traveled, a small town where community and safety is emphasized. I've had enough of the high culture life a big city can offer. I would like to buy a home on a large lot and feel like it is my safe haven. I am an artist, photographer and writer. I have seen many of photographs of the underlying area and know how spectacular it will be surrounded by all those lovely red rocks and canyons. My thoughts are that the proximity is ideal for travel photography. Page is close to all the national parks in southern Utah, near the borders of NM and NV. Not too far from CA. This is what I see from the outside. I would definitely appreciate an insiders intake. Is life good in Page? What are the advantages and disadvantages of living there? Do most residents have their own swimming pool? What is the wintertime like?

SWP maybe tired of the rain? tired of mold?? i grew up in edmonds (50s&60s) raised sons by martha lake (164th st exit). page is only 'overtraveled' during the tourist season, if you can call it that. tourism probably is our main source of income. lots of jobs are tourist season oriented. lake water is 80 by july4th and is already 70. we're in an unusually cooler period right now or the lake would be warmer. seems to be windy a lot here during the last year. used to be mainly in april. not anymore. winter is quite bearable because its sunny almost every day. some people wear shorts year round! just bundle up if you want to play outside. great place to have a motorcycle, almost never rains. photography is only limited to imagination. obviously one needs a 4-wheel drive here for outdoor activities. we didnt know that when we bought a malibu the next spring when we moved here. now have 4 wheel and use it as often as i can. also have buddy who takes me out on 4wd trips. we both have panoramio pages. checked google earth and discovered almost no private pools (unless covered by a roof) i am amazed. there is some culture here if you look for it. a theatre with 1st run films (very old theatre) i love to fish and go sailing. i hope i helped you out! kat

If you must move to the Page area, please leave Seattle and all its trappings behind. Do not attempt to change us here to fit your idea. Live your own life and let others do the same. We like our 4WD's and ATV's. If you find we aren't up to your scale, please just move back to Seattle where you can wallow in self righteousness.

Wow! You are far too opinionated about the city I live. You have no idea who I am or where I come from or how I was brought up. You are too prejudice.

Never done more than drive thru Page and that was years ago. I'm sure there's alot of Arizona that you'd find pleasant. Welcome when you come.

If you're an example of what I would find in Page, I think I'd look somewhere else.

Don't judge the whole town by this guy. I've not been in Page for a long time, but met some very nice people there on my travels.

Well, this knucklehead also made another post slamming the corruption and drunkards that abound in Page, yet on this post he insists it stays the same. OK, troll...back under your bridge now.
I have been to Page twice- once for a visit for one week on Lake Powell, and another just this year for househunting and land hunting. Page is centrally located to MANY different activities, from hiking at the Grand Canyon to ATV'ing, to mountain biking and hiking and boating. It's truly an awesome place for the adventurous. But if you're looking for a place with a nightlife and entertainment outside of the aforementioned, you may want to venture south to Flagstaff instead.
There was NOTHING to do at night in Page. At least not anything I enjoy doing- can't catch a movie...I couldn't find a single theater in the whole city. My cell phone took a dump, and I needed to drive all the way to Flag to get it replaced. Ugh.
It's a retirement place for the adventure seeker- plain and simple. If you have a boat, you're in heaven. Despite the lack of entertainment, I still plan on heading out there when I retire. It's a beautiful area, and I can see spending my remaining years cruising around on Lake Powell, getting groceries at Wal Mart, and taking the occasional trip to Vegas for the weekend or hiking the Grand Canyon. If I want movies, I'll get some from Netflix.
Page just has the same small-town/vacation based problems of any town it's size- geared towards tourism, the native residents get bored and may have a tendency to imbibe frequently. I'd do the same if I lived there and had nothing better to do. But you have to weigh the pros and cons based on your lifestyle. I've found it has more pros for what I plan on doing in my later years!
