Page, AZ continued
A couple of things I forgot to mention in the original post.
I am a self-employed artist. I would eventually like to open my own gallery/gift store in the town I live. Most of my sales come from presenting at art shows. I have read that AZ has a lot of good art shows throughout the year. Does anyone know if the art show circuit in AZ is year round? If not, do you know the season?
I was also wondering about the monsoon season and lightning storms. Do those occur in Page? I'm excited if they do. I have never witnessed such remarkable beauty from the natural climate.
I am a single woman, age 41.
Is Page a place I'd like living in?

Page is a pretty isolated small town, but with the lovely scenery of Lake Powell. I'm sure there are thunderstorms there in the summer, just like practically everywhere else in AZ!
Down in the desert areas, there are larger art and craft shows in the spring and fall; I'm thinking of the two in Tempe, (Phx suburb) I'm sure there are others. I think Festival in the Pines still happens in Flagstaff in the summer, there are art shows on the square in Prescott as well, but I'm not sure of the times. Tucson I'm not as familiar with, you might want to post that question on the Tucson forum.

Below is a link to a USA lightening frequency map. The Mogollon Rim and SE AZ get a lot of lightening.
Page is pretty far from most population centers.

Well, now you have three threads on Page, and I don't know which one to answer. Not to sound pedantic, but you know you can add a reply to a thread you already started. That way you keep all your conversations in one thread and keep everything nice and tidy. Anyway...
As an avid photographer, Page is one of my favorite places on earth. It's a geological mecca. The town is small and funky, and very isolated from any cities of note. Mostly native American residents, and a minority of whites working in the tourist trades. I'm not sure if there's an artist gallery or not there. One might do well in the summer with the tourist trade (Slot Canyons, Lake Powell, etc), but you may as well close shop in the winter. We've had several folks pass through the forum here with intentions to move there. The one overriding thing we've heard is that it's impossible to find housing. Not sure why that is, but we've heard it enough to know it's true.
So I'm torn. Ultimately, I think it would be a spectacular place to create art, but maybe not such a good place to sell it. It's probably a bad place to be single as well, unless you're a loner.
You might be better in someplace like Sedona or Prescott, or even Flagstaff. And plan to spend a lot of time visiting Page.
And now we get to the point in my post where I indulge myself by posting a few pictures from Page.
Slot canyons
Watch out for ghosts
Sands of time
Crazy Martian scenery in the South Coyote Buttes
And of course Horseshoe Bend, probably one of the most photographed places on earth. Although that won't stop me from posting my version (which I shamelessly feel holds its own with the best of them. ) Sorry about the size, I don't have a small one handy.
And I have hundreds more images from Page. And yet, I've only scratched the surface in that area. I plan on returning frequently. Maybe I'll see half of it in my lifetime. If you like to photograph and paint, you too will be in heaven there.

Kdog, I have used your Horseshoe Bend pic as my wallpaper...lol
I just got back from Page; I spent 3 days there exploring and house hunting. There is hardly anything in the way of rental property, but there's a ton of homes for sale. Granted, the price for some of these properties is probably out of some people's price ranges, but there is no shortage of places springing up. I drove through Greenhaven and checked out the new Toroweap townhomes (absolutely beautiful-but pricey). But homes and condos in Greenhaven are very reasonable compared to Florida. Even I can afford it!
The only thing about Page that somewhat disappointed me was the lack of some resources. I had to drive all the way to Flag to see a movie and to get my cell phone (Verizon) replaced.
I am hoping that by the time I retire out there in about 13 years they'll add some things there to make it more resident friendly. A movie theater and a small mall with a Verizon wireless store would make it perfect..lol.
Check out my album for some other pics from my road trip.

Oh...I totally agree with KDog about the Sedona/ Flagstaff/ Page issue. I went to Flag and Sedona and stayed at those places as well. Sedona is awesome...I really liked it there as well- that's another place on my radar. Flagstaff, although it's big and seems nice, just seems to crowded and busy for my taste. I do like the fact Sedona is close enough to Flag that you can take a trip up there and shop and do everything without making it a whole day long event.

Wow, great shots in your gallery. How long were you on vacation? Man, looks like you did everything. Jet skiing, mountain biking, hiking, Bryce Canyon, Sedona. Dude, you know how to live. Did you drive out? I'm wondering where you got the bike. And that's not really your boat, is it?

The boat and jetski pics are from back in 07- we rented the houseboat, the jet boat was mine- no longer have it due to a divorce. I drove out and the bike is mine. I would have loved to take the ski out there with me....I spent a whole day out at Lone Rock Beach and it was killing me.
I took 2 weeks, went to Fruita CO, Moab UT, Page, Sedona and Flagstaff.
Sorry to hijack the thread!
