Hello All,

I am a newly registered viewer of the site and love the info this site provides. I am 22 years old and have been living in Southern California all my life. I can honestly say that I am tired and over the SoCal nonsense. Its time to experience life and start fresh.

I am currently a paramedic in SoCal and am looking at a career in Law Enforcement as a Police Officer/Deputy Sheriff. Just wanted to get some ideas as to what departments are respected and looked highly upon within the state of AZ, so that I can narrow my search and focus my research. The websites can only tell me so much, but hopefully I can get the inside scoop on what AZ has to offer in the Law Enforcement Field.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

The two agencies that come to mind that I believe are well thought of are the Department of Public Safety (Arizona Highway Patrol) and the Maricopa County Sheriffs Department. I don't reside in Phoenix, but in conversation with those that do, I have never heard any negative views about the Phoenix PD. There are other departments in cities around the Phoenix metro area (Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler) also. As for the Tucson PD, I have heard neither negatives or positives.

The better way to approach it may be deciding where exactly in Arizona you are thinking of settling and go from there. If you are trying to escape the sort of hustle and bustle that Southern California is famous for, then moving to Phoenix or Tucson probably isn't the way you want to go. That would point you then more towards Northern Arizona and places like Prescott and Flagstaff.

I'm not sure if I answered your question exactly, but perhaps it will give you a starting point.

If you're a racist bigot, then the sheriff's office is the way to go!

Scottsdale Police is hiring, you should work in Old Town Scottsdale.

All Departments in the State are looking for good people.

A lot depends on the type of policing you want to do -

MCSO for example deals with a lot illegal immigration issues while Phoenix PD does a lot of community type policing.

Good luck

The sheriff's department is considered pretty much bottom of the barrel (fairly or unfairly) contrary to the post above. City PDs are all OK - certainly better than MCSO.

If you want to deal with illegals then go Border Patrol over MCSO. In addition, I would take city or the state over MCSO.
