Williams is a very nice little town and close enough to Flagstaff for the other shopping and medical needs that you might have want of. Ashfork is another 20 minutes west of Williams and is much smaller. I personally like Williams however they have some hard cold winter weather at both cities. Williams is big enough that you never really have to leave town for the most part and the city is very friendly. Ashfork is more isolated with much less in the way of serving you as a community. If you didn’t try these two links you might want to visit them for more info.

i have been living in Ash Fork for 15 years now . the winters here are mild compared to Nebraskas . just for something to do i have kept a track of temps at MY house for few years . nothing complicated though . the high -low temp of the day , sunny or cloudy ,or windy , and amount of rain or snow for the day .
IMO , Williams is a tourist town . nice little town though surrounded by beautiful scenery . while either town might be off the beaten path the roads make it easy to travel to other places .Phoenix , Los Angeles are few short drives away .
to me the isolation part is a mind set . the isolation brings a lot of less hassle from big towns , makin for a closer community . just my opine and observation .

My brother considered both places and choose Williams for several reasons: there is better shopping, change of season, closer to Flagstaff and still a small town, not an isolated as Ash Fork, etc. I have never lived in either, but have driven through both, Ask Fork is really just a stop in the road. If I were making the choice it would be willaims, but you need to visit both to see which is a better match for you.

If its nice weather then its Ashfork, Yes it snows but You should see the hill just east of town it climbs up aways and the change in altitude creates a bunch of snow pack.
So stay in Ashfork and if you want snow to play in its not far away.
Ashfork has Steel dam and JD dam lakes small and remote. Steel dam was going dry and jd was not far behind awhile back but it had fish in it.
Williams has a jd lake and Kaibab plus a few others south of town.
Both towns have water problems. Ashfork has a very diverse population compared to what I have seen in Williams.
Seligman now thats a place 75 miles from anywhere Flagstaff, Prescott and Kingman.

Stopped in Ash Fork to get a flat tired fixed and was not impressed with the town. Pretty rundown in my opinion.
FYI - places like Benson or Sierra Vista in SE Arizona have better weather in my opinion (and some reasonable prices in the area too).

You need to visit these places before you decide to relocate there. Williams is the nicer of the two, IMHO, but neither place has much to offer as far as jobs, shopping, etc. Ash Fork is a one the last places I'd want to live...but that's just me. Anyway...please visit both places first.

ash fork is wonderful if you like isolation, which we do and people do carry fire arms for protection, more and more because of county politics pushing people off their land by creating arizona revised statues removing grandfather rights(pre-existing use), $3500 enviromental impact fees, no rules of evidence at zoning hearings(you can't win), Don't plan on pitching a tent or camping in your R.V. for even one night (this is a statue, please look it, up google arizona revised statue), there are reports of zoning officers showing up with plain clothed escorts carrying M-16s attemting to provoke land owners into defending the land they own
