He hung up for probably being so embarrassed.
What we were selling was 2 1/2 acres, dirt road, wooden stakes. Nothing else. Had a customer come into the office and ask if there was street lights and hot and cold water to each lot!

It's usually the uppity crowd from hotshot inbred families or those who just have alot of money who can't figure out why regular folks want out. And YES, Family Dollar is a REAL store. A building with merchandise inside, that sells the merchandise in exchange for money is called a STORE. Say it with me dookieboy, s t o r e...

Thanks for the retail lesson there strings. My comment was meant as a light hearted joke. You know, a "j o k e".
I'm sure the fine folks in Fredericktown, Missouri and Senatobia, Mississippi really appreciate you referring to their home towns as "vomit puddles". But like you said, they probably just have their heads in the sand.

Hi Roosevelt, and anyone else,
You reminded me of something I forgot to throw out there earlier...
If you wanna come out here for the starry, starry nights, to relax outdoors and enjoy the evening sky, pitch a little woo with someone sweet, ok...but, oh, wait just a minute! --what's that? A shooting star? Nope, -- wish again. Why, it's my new neighbor with his big new toy and it's a'comin' this way! Watch out for the shining thing atop it's 40 foot pole. It's there for everyone within seeing distance to gaze at in amazement. Your eyeballs won't believe it's blazing annoyance and you won't be able to look the other way. It will peek thru your windows, and ruin your night vision. It's bold and obnoxious.
Oops, there goes another romantic even-ing.
Oops, there goes another full moon in June.
...Ahhh, how cute; it was their first erection;
you'd a'thought at least a good bug zapper or a sturdy wood fence would have come before that thing was aiming everywhere. (but, they had to show off the fact that they could afford to pay whatever it takes. Make a good first impression, ya know.)
I had high hopes that maybe, like us, they wanted to live out here for the dark, starry nights? But I guess not; and, by the way, can't you aim that thing in YOUR own face? Your own yard? That's why it's called a yard light...and it's all YOURS.
I know where I'm at and what I've got. I don't need an up close and personal look at it 24/7. So put a lamp shade on it, will ya? Or else I'm gonna find me a big 'ol mirror and aim it right back atcha, baby! Infact, I may just put up mirrors on all sides of my yard so you light worshipers get it bouncin' back from every angle. Alright!... how do ya like YOUR big thing now? Isn't this fun... ?
later on....
Ok, sweetie, pass me the sleeping mask, will ya? Oh, never mind! I think I'm going blind anyhow... sheesh... G'night, pleasant dreams...uhhh, where'd ya go?
OK< now I'm angry!!!!!!

Half Full Or Half Empty
Oh hell, there are parts of entire cities that match such a description. Toothless, obese, drunks, junky yards, tidy yards, coiffed hair, scraggy hair. Dead buildings. Clunker cars, fancy cars, xtroverts, introverts, bums, angels, nutbags, retired professors. Cities can certainly have trash blowing all over the place.
This town has improved over the last year. I have seen people forced to clean up a yard so filthy that the rats wouldn't stay there if you paid them. A yard up from me was just cleaned out, and it looks nice with the lone healthy joshua tree. Prior to that, it had been holding about 10 junky vehicles. The owner defaulted on the land, and it was repossessed, and will probably sell for a good penny since it is on a water line. There are plenty of decent people here. I would say that we have more good than bad. We have a little healthy restaurant, and I wish them well. They have alternatives to the beer swilling and greaseball fests often found in a few other eateries.
I have all my teeth. I am not a doper, or boozehound. Not stupid, or mean, or overweight. I wear dresses, and have flowers in my hair, sometimes because I just feel like it. Remember : the person driving the fancy car and 3 piece suit might refuse to help you out in a bind, and the toothless drunk might just tow your ass out of the desert if you get into a bind. Think : Old West. (and Las Vegas an hour away with many of the same problems that little poor towns have). Karma has no specific geographical location.
In Kingman, someone posted pictures online of slums, and trashmo hell holes. I wish we would do that in Dolan Springs. What we need is a contest for the "most Improved property" with a cash prize. Try a positive approach. This town is affordable, still. We need more people to care.

Right-on, Peggy Anne!! Great post!!!
It takes a special breed of person to enjoy living in small desert towns. The OP has been forced into a situation which she obviously doesn't like to take care of her parents. No wonder she has a chip on her shoulder, and I can't blame her for that. The thing I will blame is the childish manner in which she chooses to dump on the entire town to vent the frustrations with her life. I would suggest she leaves and takes her parents with her.

Sorry, but when you create a profile on a public internet forum with the sole purpose of lambasting an entire town, it becomes everyone's concern. You're unhappy with your life, and it shows.

I do not know how I somehow stumbled upon this this thread, but I did. Of course, living in any small town is going to suck, no matter what anyone says. Case in point, I was born in Phoenix and have lived there almost my entire life, and I never have even heard of Dolan Springs. I had to look it up on a search engine to even find out where it was. That should tell you the significance of this city. I am one of the people who completely agree with you. I had a friend who lived in Mayor, AZ which is a town of 3,000. I stayed with her for 2 weeks before I lost my mind and left. IMO, the smaller the city, the more boring it is.
