Default Are prescription meds really any cheaper in Mexico?

I'm curious because I used to live in Yuma and we went to Mexico several times for lunch/shopping in Algodones and the pharmacies were always pretty busy. My mother in law came down and we went to Mexico and she wanted to check out the prices on the prescription drugs to see if they were a good deal. She said they were just as much as in the US.
I guess I'm curious why so many people go down there if they are not really a good deal? But she only checked two kinds maybe it's rel cheap for others? I don't smoke but my neighbor does and he would always make sure to give me $$ to pick him up a carton. They were 16$ in Mexico for Marlboro..

So what do you guys think? Are presciption drugs really a steal in Mexico?

Yes, some prescription drugs are cheaper, BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO HAVE A PRESCRIPTION TO BUY THEM (legally).

From what I've heard, they can be cheaper -- and remember that all prices in Mexico are negotiable! However, also note that these drugs are often counterfeit, expired (and relabeled/repackaged), or just an off-brand (but still made by the same brand name company).

I've only had one experience with buying rx in Mexico (I was on vacation and got sick), and it was definitely cheaper than it would have been in America.

They must be cheaper there. A bunch of students keep going down there to buy prescription drugs and sell them in the HS schools. A new group just got arrested in Gilbert 2 weeks ago. I don't think any of them had a prescription either.
