Arizona Looking Real Good To Me
I'm a Vietnam Veteran, General Building Contractor, and journeyman cabinetmaker living and working in Los Angeles for past 30 years.
I have always loved Arizona, my grandfather lived in Phoenix for a large part of his life. He's buried in Scottsdale.
I am considering moving to AZ.
Flame me if you must, I know a lot of people in neighboring states don't exactly get thrilled at the prospect of another California refugee fleeing to their area.
I thought I might post here and gain some insight as to what area of Arizona might be a good place to land. I have seen Prescott and the Chino Valley and liked it. I don't care much for Phoenix, or any other big city anymore for that matter.
Any suggestions? ....apart from "don't come here"?
Edit To Add: Also, is the residential construction and remodel market there in Prescott thriving to any degree, or is it depressed like everywhere?
Thanks.

You might want to post this in the Prescott forum as well, to get answers to your Prescott/Chino questions.

My dad was in Contracting, he was a serviceman on heavy equipment. He had been doing that for about 15 years. He was laid off in January, and was unable to find another job. Lost his car, his house, everything. No health care anymore. In may when he was foreclosed on, he was moving all his stuff into a truck to move to Minnesota, he blew out both hips and his back. No health care. Now he is in a wheelchair doing nothing in Minnesota. Things are not good right now.

Every been to Kingman? It's a nice small town with lots of Californians here, me included. 3500' elevation, so not too hot (although you wouldn't know it this week.) Centrally located at I40 and 93 to Vegas. I don't think there's much in the way of custom cabinetry or furniture here that's any good. I've done some cabinetmaking myself in the past. Maybe we ought to team up and open a cabinet shop. Get it all set up for the next big building boom. Once the Hoover Dam bypass is completed, this place is really going to take off.

I sure won't. And it would be nice to get my Second Amendment rights back as well.

I wasn't sure if we should call you Woody or Butch until this post! Whatever your background, I'm sure you'll be a great contributor to Arizona. We'll keep the Welcome Wagon warmed up for you!

son is a roofing contractor in Sierra Vista(southeast of Tucson 70 miles), business is picking back up in new construction. Nothing like it was, but busy and a backlog. Still building custom homes here for wellheeled military retirees and others.
Kingman is ok and kdog is right, it will probably take off after the bypass is finished...maybe. I don't think the dam route kept many from traveling that way if they really wanted to get to sincity. And if you like your fellow californys, there's alot of 'em already in Kingman.
but there is the wind thing.............'course kdog will only repeat once again, that since I left kingman the wind has died down.......old joke.
