Just wondering. I have been looking at apartments and houses in Gilbert and I have noticed that everything so far is brown dirt. Is it too hot for grass to grow? Or is it because I am looking at mostly new developments? Can someone advise? Thanks!

Water is a precious commodity in the desert. It can take over 10 FEET of irrigation water to keep a lawn green here annually.

We are a desert, it's not a natural thing to have out here. Plus it takes TONS of water to keep it up, and we don't get that from the sky.

Plus ya have to take care of it mow fertilize reseed if ya want green in winter.
Much ezer with desert landscaping. If it dies cause ya did not water it it does not belong at my place. |

You see grass here and there and trees that have been planted to make it look like it's not the desert, but it's really the desert. What's it look like from above when you are flying in from Sky Harbor? That's what it is brown dirt. |

There's lots of grass in many areas in the suburbs. It's everywhere in Chandler and Gilbert. Of course, this is also the desert, so you can't expect too much.

The grass is in the backyard. Seven minutes of water three times a week keeps it green. I'll give up grass in my yard when the golf courses stop watering and the man-made lakes are gone.

Many of the golf courses and man-made lakes are using reclaimed water. I believe there should be a law prohibiting the use of non-reclaimed water for these purposes. We don’t need any more golf courses and lakes using what little and limited water we have here.
I want to be able to get a drink and wash clothing. Beyond that we need to conserve washing cars in the driveways, watering grass and golf courses, building lakes in the desert. If you can’t drink it, don’t waste it! Some restaurants don’t serve water unless it’s asked for and it should be that way throughout the entire metro valley. |

I have always had a grass lawn and I will continue to have a grass lawn. There were less than 2 million people in the entire state when I first started having to mow a grass lawn.
You can take away my grass lawn when you pry the garden hose from my cold, dead fingers! ![]() |
