How is Tempe???
Hey all, I have a job interview in May around the Tempe/Scottsdale area. I'm just wondering how Tempe is, other than there's no skiing I've heard ASU is a party school and that it's a lot of fun in that area. My bro. lives in Tucson, he says the weather is great and the people generally are nice and down to earth. I'm coming from Provo Utah where it's cold and the people tend to be shallow and snooty (I realize there are people like that everywhere, but if you lived here, you would understand what I'm talking about, it's VERY bad). So I was wondering how rent is. Around here, a pretty nice private room with room mates can range from from $275-$450/month, which I'm sure is cheaper than Phoenix area, but still, I just need an idea. Is there lots of fun things to do, I've heard from probably a dozen or so people that that area rocks, I hope so, cause I'm an outgoing, open minded, fun seeking person, and I need to be surrounded by a culture like that. I appreciate the feedback.

If you are young I guess it rocks. My 19 year old son lives there and he's loving it. He says girls are everywhere and are very free if you get the point. I don't know how down to earth these kids are but they are down to getting drunk and partying. Check out some private condo rentals. You can get a few people to rent a 3 bedroom and split the cost. Check out Mistwood, Hudson Trace it's been awhile I can't think of the others but they have some pretty nice condos around Tempe.

I love Tempe- it is has diversity of culture, people are generally down to earth, ASU is a great campus, and you will never have to shovel snow again. Rent can be very expensive plus the additional cost of utilities. Prices vary depending on where you choose to live. If a had to guess for a nice place with a roommate you are probably looking at aroun $800.00 monthly or more.

Maybe 10 years ago ASU was a party school. I have been in Tempe/Scottsdale for 6 years now, and although Scottsdale and Tempe are busy Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, it is nowhere near the type of party schools on the east cost.
Go to mill avenue on a tuesday night or a night when it rains and nobody is around.
If you are in your mid 20's and professional minded, you may like Scottsdale better than Mill.

thanks for the info, I"m college aged (24) so I would probably like the College scene of Tempe. I guess the party scene has died down there compared to what it used to be, but I"m sure it's 500 times more wild than BYU

I prefer Tempe over Prescott, Az. There's a lot to do in Tempe and more jobs there too. I miss Tempe. I used to live there for a year, when I first moved to Arizona, back in Oct. 2001. I miss it very much. There's lots of clubs, taverns, pubs, and bars to party at on the weekends. Always something going on in them on the weekends. And lots of jobs there too. They are always looking for new waiters/waitresses and bartenders. I wished I could move back and get back into that.

Tempe is defined as a Phoenix suburb ... but it has really become its own city with a very active nightlife within recent years. I work in downtown Tempe, but I try to avoid Mill Avenue as much as possible because it's crowded most of the time with vehicular AND pedestrian traffic.
Tempe is also landlocked ... meaning that that there's no more room for the city limits or more development to sprawl outward. So Tempe is doing the wise thing by building UPward. Several highrise projects are either under construction, or planned in the downtown area ... most of which are condos. Some mid rise office buildings have also been constructed along the shores of the lake, which is a popular spot on the north end of downtown, and south of Loop 202.
