I currently live in Central Texas, Killeen. The Economy is great there, military town (Fort Hood.) Military towns do not fall subject to the economy's decline, because soldiers always get paid the same, no matter what.
I own a house there right now, that I am wanting to sell soon, 1600 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, with fireplace, 2 car garage, I mortgaged it for $89,000 out the door.
As far as the weather goes, its not bad. It does get up around 105 max in the summer, but it does rain. It is hill country, so there are plenty of back country roads to drive on that have awesome scenery.

I live in San Angelo Tx, and let me tell you, Its a very nice town with lots to do, but its hard to find a job here unless you have a cirtification or a degree for something. I love it here but once I graduate college, my husband and I are moving to Harlingen Tx or Port Isabel Tx.

The Woodlands (Yeah, it's in the Houston area), Lake Conroe (ditto), maybe Frisco. I lived in Texas for eight years, and, frankly, I didn't like it that much. But I hope it works out for you.

We really liked San Antonio and New Braunfels. The thing that we could not get used to was like where the heck were all the stip malls?

This is the Arizona thread my friend but if I had to pick. It would be San antonio. What do you have against the gulf coast? I lived on the Mississippi Gulf coast and loved it. I survived Katrina just fine. the secret is to not live below sea level and live at least a mile from a major body of water(lake, river or the gulf itself) and you will most likely be fine through a hurricane
