Can anyone tell me about Casa Grande? (Tucson, Glendale: apts, condo)

Okay I just bought a home in Casa Grande, however I'm 40. I like the area, and I'm about 25 minutes from Chandler. It is growing, and if you take the job, you will be going to the Pheonix Area for any excitement. The home prices are great for what you get......

I lived there for 4 months. It was the worst.

The whole town shuts down after 11 pm. There is one movie theatre (rundown) and a few strip malls and grocery stores. Some fast food.

There are some trashy women there, if you are into that.

I would avoid it at all costs.

Well, I don't know if there is a hot young female teacher there, but there was one there once, when I went to school there in the 60's, maybe others have moved in since... LOL


I was there this past week for the monthly Art in The Alley event and saw some pretty good looking women walking around unattached...

Go, for the job, you have as much chance of finding a companion there as anywhere, else. One thing about Casa Grande, people are friendly there, so if you want the job, take it.

If you love to hike in the desert, or just love the quiet, peaceful outdoors life, move to Casa Grande. It's growing quickly, and is located about halfway between Tucson and Phoenix. I lived in Tucson for 7.5 yrs and drove by Casa Grande on I-10 every time I flew in and out of Phoenix. It's a city of like 50,000 (I think) people and growing, but there's zero culture, zero nightlife, and zero anything remotely resembling city life going on (at least for now). Things will change, but if I were in my mid-20s, I'd pick Tucson or Phoenix. Unless of course, you are not into nightclubs, bars, going out a lot, or if you don't need much entertainment. If you decide to go there, it can always be a resume builder.

I agree with this assessment completely. I just moved to Casa Grande about 6 weeks ago and there is not much here. I am a 24 yr old single male, but I don't need the culture, nightlife, or entertainment that a city has to offer. I like the quietness and how everything I need (Walmart, Fry's, gym, nice golf course) is within 0.5 to 2 miles from my apartment. Also, if you want to go to the city, Chandler is only a 30-35 minute drive away... just zip on up the I-10 and you're there. They are building a new mall which will open later this year, so that will help contribute somewhat to a city feel.

Casa Grande is mid-point between Phoenix and Tucson on the Interstate. Believe me, it's not much of anything....and don't let anyone tell you other wise!

Incorrect. Casa Grande is closer to Phoenix. It is 31 miles to Chandler, 48 miles to Phoenix and 69 miles to Tucson. It may not be much of anything, but that is open to interpretation. If you are looking for a quiet lifestyle, it works quite well.

I moved to AZ in 1974 from Memphis, Tn. (pop.450,000+) to Mesa, AZ. Lived & worked in Mesa/Tempe/Chandler/Scottsdale areas for 10 yrs. Relocated to Casa Grande in 1984, single.....and happy to be after 8 yrs of marriage. Didn't have any problems whatsoever meeting people, dating, night life, etc. It was actually a pleasant surprise to walk in for dinner or a drink somewhere and feel SAFE enough to go alone. In 1987 met a native of Casa Grande (in bar), who also happened to be Engineer @ Fire Dept. Three months later we were married. Just celebrated 20 yrs. together, best move I ever made! He retired after 28 yrs with dept as Captain & works part time at local golf course. I still work full time + in real estate industry & wouldn't do anything else.

You couldn't pay me to move back to the valley. Hate that all the smog, traffic, etc., has found Casa Grande. We have Dillards, Target, Petco, all in process of being built now. We have Chilis, Sports bars, Lowes, Home Depot, etc., and have always had all the shopping/partying you can stand 30 minutes to the valley or 45 minutes to Tucson. Only the new housing developments have the small, don't speak too loud cause your neighbor will answer you, lots. The population here was 28,000+ and growing slowly until 2005. The explosive housing/development market hit and we will never be the same. We have almost, if not have, doubled in population in a little over 2.5 yrs.

How can anyone be the judge & jury if they lived in a community less than 3-5 yrs? And how could you possibly know if there is culture, nightlife, or anything else? To coin an ole southern phrase, "Don't knock it, till you try it"!

It is located just off the I-10 and Florence Blvd. New houses are being built and the town is growing. If you haven't been here recently, you have no idea of what is going on here.

Out of curiosity, when was the Walmart built? I'm looking forward to the mall because it will have a Kohl's, Applebee's and Olive Garden.
