I should have a right to go anywhere I want without being caused harm to my health, period! It's a very selfish act to smoke in public and apparently I'm not the only one who believes this.

No, of course you are not the only one that believes this. Apparently, the majority of people think this way or it wouldn't have been voted into law. I'm only surprised it took this long. California, Utah, and many other states have had these laws in place for years. It's about time. And yes, I agree 100 percent that anybody should be able to go to any public place without the fear of these extremely "selfish" people imposing their nastiness on everybody else.

I used to be courteous about where and when I smoked. But since society has decided to pass laws that determine where I can smoke, I figure I have the legal right to smoke everywhere except on someone's private property or where it's prohibited by law. So now I let the law decide where I will smoke. I guess if you don't want me to smoke around you, then you'll need to move or call the police if I'm breaking a law.
I haven't had much of a problem with the smoking bans until the latest one that bans smoking in all bars. I think it's a little ridiculous to be concerned about protecting the health of people that are voluntarily pickling their liver. I don't even drink much, but I do enjoy having a couple beers and smoking in a bar once or twice a month. When the voters decided to hit me with an extra eighty cents a pack tax to pay for some children's programs , I started buying my smokes from the Indian reservation. They have some nice sports bars at the casino, I guess I'll be spending my time and money there from now on.

I was born and raised a heavy second-hand smoker. Before I was used to it, but since I moved away from my relatives, I may have moved to slightly dirtier air; however, am no longer used to cigarette smoke.
I went bowling for an event, this bowling alley allowed smoking indoors, and my asthma was so bad, I could definetly tell the difference. I am no longer used to the second hand smoke.
I'm sorry for the smokers, including my relatives who live in a state with the same restrictions. I understand that the hardest thing to do is to quit. It is the most addictive habit.
The stress here in this state has definetly increased since I moved here, not for myself but for others with higher gas prices, higher cost of living. Brings people to smoke, if not smoke again.
I can emphasize with the smokers, before, they had the freedom to live life with the cigarette - to smoke and relax in restaurants and to have it taken away really sucks for them.
Okay, we will be better off in smoke free environments? What will the state do about other major issues with the pollution as some cannot even breathe outdoors.
What is the state doing for our transportation system as the brown air becomes increasingly dense?
What is the state doing to help the smokers kick their habits if they really want to without spending exhorbant amount of money?

We've been gathering up our recipes and plan to eat at home night after night when the smoking ban takes effect. The only exception is when we go to the local Indian casinos. We can still smoke in their restaurants and we buy our cigarettes at Indian casinos now too.
When Nevada outlawed smoking in restaurants a few months back, we stopped going to Vegas and Laughlin casinos and haven't been back since. Sure, we can still smoke on the casino floor but half the fun was eating in casino restaurants too. Now, we just stay home.
The Nevada Tavern Owners Association is challenging the ban in the Nevada Supreme Court soon. Wonder how long it will take for this to happen in Arizona too....City, county and state revenues will drop. Sales have dropped in Nevada since their ban took effect, and they've had lay-offs too.
Some anti-smokers seem so angry, and full of blame. They belittle smokers left and right, and feel entitled to say anything they want. I hope they don't act this way (and talk this way) around their kids because this is teaching their kids bigotry as far as I am concerned.....Desertlovers

SElaine, Talk about selfish! The only PUBLIC area banned is the 20 feet outside private businesses. It's people like you imposing their ME ME ME! selfishness on people trying to make a living. Like BillyBaroo, I've always been courteous and never smoked around non-smokers. Now I wonder why.

Obviously you're not alone. No, you don't have a right to go on someone else's property. You're in business, you should know that. If someone comes to your office and engages in an activity that is disruptive or offensive, are you going to have that person removed? Sure you will. But why? Don't they have a RIGHT to go anywhere THEY want? Sablebaby, generally I agree with you, but you are completely missing my point. This goes way beyond the subject of smoking. If smoking in public had been banned, I wouldn't have even commented.
My point is you and other voters violated the rights of PRIVATE citizens to allow a LEGAL activity on their PRIVATE PROPERTY. Had the law mandated that restaurants and bars prominently display signs that warned non-smokers that it was a smoking establishment, that would have been fair. Again, there were plenty of non-smoking establishments for people who didn't want to be exposed to second hand smoke. Passing a law banning something because you don't like it? Apparently you won't get it until the government or the voters hit you where you live. Don't think it will happen? Stand by. The day WILL come when more than just the politically incorrect personal freedoms are taken away.
By the way, littering is littering; I took enforcement action on violations regardless of the garbage tossed out the window.

Yeah, I can take my children to Dennys and not have to bring them home and bathe them to get rid of the cigarette smell. Oh and I can enjoy my food without it tasting like cigarettes. And no more cigarette smoke headaches. Hooray for Arizona voters.
Yes this is a free country, but freedom does not give you the right to harm my children with your cancer stick smoke!
