Default The Flagstaff Rip-Off

[quote=crowder451;10191046]If you want Liberal, stay away from the desert states.

Absolutely!!! Avoid Arizona and New Mexico. Go to the coast of Southern California, Palm Springs, Boulder (CO), or Austin, Texas!!!

" The Southern part of the state is just about a police state. "

So is Las Vegas, NV; Phoenix; Albuquerque; and Flagstaff, AZ. I don't think it's because of the border, however, it's because there's a gap between the RICH and the POOR because of Arizona's Notorious REGRESSIVE anti-business, anti-labor, anti-union policies, along w/ high taxes and a low minimum wage that make it impossible to get ahead. Restaurant servers make $3 an hour, compared to $8/hr (i.e. the Minimum Wage) in California.

" If you can afford Flagstaff, you can afford someplace close to the coast in California. "

Great point! Go to Santa Cruz or Santa Rosa and get a mountain property in the Redwood Forests :-) Or if you want to stay "in the Rockies," try Durango - Pagosa Springs - that is THE up and coming area in the 4 Corners States that is still relatively affordable ... in terms of land ...

" Before I moved to Arizona, under duress, I lived in Santa Cruz and Stockton, Ca for 20 years, so I know what the liberal lifestyle means. "

Same thing here! I lived in Seattle for over 20 years ! I have lived or travelled in Albuquerque, Vegas, Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, Sedona, Santa Fe (NM), and there isn't any place that comes close. They are all cliquish, humorless, unwelcoming people who pay their employees the lowest possible wage, and don't foster policies that favor the middle class, unionized labor, and new businesses coming to town.

" Stockton is just like Tucson, uncannily alike, and more affordable, but from stockton you can get to San Francisco, Half Moon, Santa Cruz, Tahoe, Monterey, even Sacramento (not so fancy, but interesting.) Ocean, trees, mountains, trees, educated people, trees, and did I mention green living things. "

Again, VERY good point, and after experiencing the Flagstaff Rip-Off, I may be doing something similar. I also like the Sierra Foothills between Reno and Sacramento. Eastern Oregon is very nice.

Hey Tom?

As a resident of both Arizona and Nevada, I think I can say for all the residents of these states -

Default Smart Growth And Arizona

[quote=Greatday;10162524]No Tom - the Pastor is not "ALWAYS" being negative about Bisbee - and inasmuch as you have never been there, perhaps you should learn about the area before commenting on it.

And, get off your "Smart Growth" crap - every post - every thread. It's old - it's tired - it's wrong.

It's not "WRONG," whatever that means. There are PRESTIGIOUS PROFESSORS such as Dr. Paul Krugman, Dr. Angel Cox, and Dr. Simon Angel who have provided a critical analysis of how Smart Growth resulted in the Housing Bubble.

Just search under "smart growth" and their names and you'll get plenty of references. If you folks don't cancel smart growth in Arizona, you're state will go bankrupt. Your state depends on construction and California transplants for its livelihood.

If you keep blocking construction with Smart Growth and Impact Fees, then theoretically, unemployment and sales tax revenues will continue to increase, and Arizona will go bankrupt. You have to stop those policies effective immediately in order to recover. Arizona is not a place to relocate right now because of Smart Growth and Impact Fees. Senator Pierce tried to cancel the Impact Fees to return the 100,000 construction jobs in the latest budget w/o success.

Again, Arizona depends on CaliforniANS. CaliforniANS are now leavning Arizona for their home state and watch your tax revenues go down.

And it has nothing to do with Pelosi and Clinton. Arizona has its own office of smart growth and many AZ cities have huge Impact Fees passed by the City Councils.

Tom Lane - how one person like you can be so totally and completely wrong, is beyond me.

But, please - continue and tell the rest of the world how they should live their lives. You know so much more than everyone else after all

Default Arizona Is Anti-Business

Call me whatever you want but I provide objective analyses. No, Nevada is not anti- business, but Arizona is strongly anti-business, anti-labor, anti-union. And, Nevada was a blue state in 2008 and has a strong union presence with the Casinos. Clark County where Vegas is has been a blue county. Senator Harry Reed is a Democrat from NV. Utilities are very expensive in Arizona, and there are inadequate workers protections, restaurant servers only make $4 an hour, and a low minimum wage in general, and food safety requirements.

I don't tell anyone how to live their lives. I simply report objectively that Arizona is an anti-business, anti-union, anti-labor, anti-gay, anti-minimum wage state. It's a politically regressive state and unless it cancels its high impact fees and smart growth, the place will go bankrupt since Construction for Incoming California Transplants is the driving force of the economy in many areas of the state!

Liberals - listen to this man!

Arizona is a hell hole of conservatism, run, run away as fast as you can. California is now on sale and is a liberal paradise of organic milk and honey, everything is free there, taxes are low and business is booming!! Nine out of ten illegals agree it is the place to be!
Please avoid Arizona and leave the conservatives to wallow in their self made police state!!

I agree with both Tucson and Bisbee...if you are a hippie type you will love both areas...I am 55 and was a "real hippie" and I would have loved both towns..especially Bisbee. Now that I am older and a bit more conservative..a day drip to bisbee is just fine. Good luck

I haven't read every post, but the latest ones seem to be arguing about whether AZ is a police state compared to liberal Disneyland destinations like Seattle. All I can say is after moving to Seattle from AZ 20 years ago that my respect for authority is at an all-time low.

In Seattle and the surrounding suburbs the police are mostly jerks that enjoy abusing their authority. In my town there is one that hit a pedestrian while drunk on duty. He's still a cop because the town is afraid to take on the union.

It's a mistake to think that police in liberal towns are able to use common sense. Those applicants get rejected for being too smart.
