I`m hoping to buy in Tonopah within the next 2 yrs. I love the seclusion but you don`t have to go too far to shop.
Another snowbird heading for Arizona. Tired of all the humidity with my asthema.

I'd love to find a really small town, flat with wide open spaces. Neighbors 1/4-1/2 miles away, and a local grocer 10-15 miles max. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might start looking ? I'm not familiar at all with the desert and the surrounding santa fe / albq. area.

Whew... you were scaring me, Rathbun... at first I thought you wanted to be out ON the desert, so I started thinking that maybe this guy wants a lean-to or a mud hut in an arroyo... or something, you know?
But, it seems to me that a "studio musician" may need electricity nearby in order to plug in his amplifier and guitar, correct me if I'm wrong...
Think small towns... or junctions... there's plenty of space between Arizona's "big cities" with plenty of quiet desert out there for ya! Best of luck, dude!

Bullhead
When I was a kid (1960-80), growing up in Chicago, the Weather Man always reported the hottest area in the USA on the nightly news.
It was always Bullhead City.

A musician friend of mine used to live at a spot along the road from LA to Vegas that was pretty away from it all. There was a mini mart and a few houses or trailers on the property. He worked at the mini mart and most of the other residents were also musicians. They had a band and would play at some of the area hot spots. One funny story, they had an annual gig at an area nudist retreat.

We were in Benson for a while....an interstate town....well...a valley really. It wasn't too bad. I actually miss Arizona now. We moved back to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina came through. We were in Benson from 2002 - 2005 and it was pretty decent. Small town living and people were friendly. There are many smaller *towns* scattered through Arizona. I agree with visiting and trying to find your right spot in the sun. Good Luck with your move!
