Let me give you something to think about: Millions of kids attended Parochial schools (Grade school and High school). Most, if not all of these Parochial schools had and still have, corporeal punishment. While I'm not going to look for it for you - I can assure you that there are studies about the long term effects on these kids, who went to school where there was strict discipline, and other kids who attended schools with very little discipline (such as many public schools). These studies will show you there is far less violence in the schools. Higher test scores. Higher college attendance. Then into adult life - FAR fewer of the kids that attended parochial schools ended up in trouble with the law - far fewer ended up in jail.

Might be a good research project for you - BEFORE you become a parent
You can discipline kids without hitting them.

I would really like to see these studies, but I doubt they exist. I went to a K-12 school for most of my childhood here in Phoenix, there was never any sort of corperal punishment.

Fear of your kids growing up to be something you won't like isn't a reason to beat them.

First off Josh - you have no experience as a parent. But I agree with you on the point that discipline does not need spanking in all cases. Spanking a child is a last resort - and not a first resort.

And, spanking is not "beating" a child. The anti spanking crowd always try to suggest that the word "spanking" and "beating" are synonymous - and CLEARLY the two terms are not even remotely the same.

BTW - the studies are there. As I suggested, it might be a good research project BEFORE you become a parent - if becoming a parent is something you have even thought of.

I don't plan on having kids for a long time, and I wouldn't even consider raising them in AZ.

Spanking is beating, there is no difference, and can still be reported as child violence.

Sorry to disappoint you Josh but - a parent spanking a child is not "child violence" and is not illegal. Spanking is NOT BEATING Josh.

Yes, it is. You can't hit your kids and say it's not violence. Most take spanking to a higher-level by using paddles and belts, and this is considered beating your kids, and is grounds for CPS to be called.

Spanking a child is NOT illegal Josh. And, this is a fact.

Spanking kids is like slapping them in the face, just because you're hitting their ass instead doesn't make it any less violent. Arizona considers anything that leaves a mark could be considered abuse, such as a bruise.

Go ahead and keep beating your kids, maybe you'll end up like the father/friend of the St. Johns boy who shot and killed them due to excessive spanking.

My children are far older than you are Josh. I have a grandchild that is just about as old as you are too.

Spanking is NOT illegal in Arizona Josh. This is a fact. And, if you stopped and thought about it for just a moment, the proof of my statement is right here in this thread - School districts still have corporeal punishment in Arizona - and no one is being arrested.

Sorry Josh but, you are mistaken on this issue. You are well intentioned though -

Spanking is illegal if you leave a mark, according to CPS.

Only 35 of the 227 school boards allow corporal punishment, and it is used as a last resort.

Spanking is not illegal

And, as I noted also, I spanked my children as a last resort.

And, also as I noted, my statement that spanking is not illegal, is proven by the FACT the school districts still allow spanking - as I PREVIOUSLY NOTED.

Come on Josh - why are you continuing to argue this: Spanking is not illegal: Parents can, and do spank their children. These points ARE NOT ARGUABLE
