No one said differently, there are maxium speed limits, but most speed limits in arizona are prima facie, the only maximums are school zones, neighborhoods, etc.
There is no need to go 80 in a 65.

I love the way some of these threads get off on tangents. (Not saying its not important discussion, just a little off of OPs topic).
Anyway, what I believe OP is saying, being somewhat familiar with the area, is that although the land where the photo radar van was placed is technically in the City of Eloy, it is on the main road that leads in and out of the UNINCORPORATED area of AZ City instead of a road that is closer to the "heart" of Eloy or a road leading into that city center.
I cant voice an opinion on the accidents, or the one mile over thing the OP references, but I would tend to agree that if they are placing this on the OUTBOUND (towards AZ City) ergress where all the traffic will quickly be out of the city, thats a little cheesy. Now, if it is at the city limits coming INBOUND, then I can understand their reasoning.

If you read the statutes, there's more to it than just school zones and neighborhoods. That said, you are right... there's no need to do 80 in a 65. This AZ City/Eloy thing does sound like a bit over the top in terms of the cameras, though.

It is in fact 1 mile an hour over. It was posted in the Eloy paper, and my neighbor got two tickets already for going 51 on 50 mph road. The fine is 225.
Yes, I am angry as this road leads in and out of Arizona City. It is not where the truck stops are, on Sun land gin, but further down, in on the way to town, to Az City. You have to go through Arizona City and miles down battaglia before you go into the city of Eloy. It should be on battaglia road where the city of Eloy starts, then it would be in the city of Eloy.
Eloy owns sun land gin road, and are taking advantage of Arizona City citizens. This is what has me very angry.
If they set this in ELOY iyself and gave tickets to people going 1mph over the speed limit the citizens would stop it, but since we are not eloy we have no say and they know it.

Here is the statute. The maximum speed in AZ appears to be 85 mph.
28-701.02. Excessive speeds; classification
A. A person shall not:
1. Exceed thirty-five miles per hour approaching a school crossing.
2. Exceed the posted speed limit in a business or residential district by more than twenty miles per hour, or if no speed limit is posted, exceed forty-five miles per hour.
3. Exceed eighty-five miles per hour in other locations.
B. A person who violates subsection A of this section is guilty of a class 3 misdemeanor.
C. A person charged with a violation of this section may not be issued a civil complaint for a violation of section 28-701 if the civil complaint alleges a violation arising out of the same circumstances.

It sounds like they are in it for the money for the short term, but it shouldn't last for long...I would think there would be much better places for a camera than there, and can think of a few in Casa Grande!!

I agree. This is a stupid place for a camera, so many people drive under the speed limit on this road it can drive one crazy, lol
Eloy can not put one in CG though, if they could they would!
I think I have seen the cops and these were real cops not photo vans,
in CG twice in the year and half I live out here checking speeds, where it really needs to be done.
That one mile an hour thing will get a lot of people. Guess I will have to use cruise control to make sure I do not go over a bit on accident.

So if they are doing this to prevent accidents, (doubtful from what you said) do they have a specific number to warrant this? In all the places I've lived they have accident prevention areas, in AK they implemented areas where the fines are double (I think), but these are high traffic areas, I can't imagine that much traffic your way...

It is just a two lane road in and out of town, granted there is traffic but nothing like in the valley. I have never once seen the road closed for an accident. It is just not a problem where they have the van. It is just a money maker.

Hah! I would be standing in line at the courthouse...it can't last with the circumstances. I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for 1 mph over the limit, and with the discrepancy in speedometers..., I have watched mine going through one of those side of the road things, and am 2 mph over by them versus what the car tells me. Be thankful you have cruise (I don't ) and refuse to yak on the phone because I either get a lead foot or slow down...I cannot multitask in the car and admit it!! I wonder if they will ticket if going to slow
