Eloy robbing Arizona City Residents
This makes me so mad!
The city of Eloy started using photo radar. They said they want to cut down on accidents. It got approved.
Where do they put it? On the land they annexed next to Arizona city. The road ONLY leads to Arizona City.
Eloy residents are not even getting the photo radar. We are!
Not only that, they have it set so that you get a ticket if you are 1 mile over the speed limit and it is a 225 charge.
So all that money that will come from our town will goto their town.
They are robbing us and know there is nothing we can do!
This is a small country road where I have never seen an accident in all the time I live here! Not to say there has never been any there, I am sure there has but I have never seen one.
It is like having a toll bridge. I suppose if they could have put one up they would have, but they do this instead.
I wish there was something I could do! This is just robbery. Eloy, put your photo radar in your own city! Keep it out of ours!

$225 for one mile over sounds excessive....are you sure you have those numbers right??....
and you say the photo radar is on recently-annexed Eloy land, then you say it is in Arizona City????
I know you're angry and I know the road you're talking about (exit 200??) which heads only for Az City....
does Eloy plan to move the camera around?....is this stretch of road indeed the most dangerous in Eloy?....do they have more than one cam in Eloy?....somebody in Az City who gets a ticket could go to the traffic court and offer these concerns and see if the judge agrees that it may be discriminating against Az City drivers.....

I don't think these are factual numbers, considering arizona does not have maxium speed limits.

Arizona has prima facie speed limits, which is based on reasonable and prudent speeds, basically meaning that if you are going 5 over it's up to the officer to decide if your speed was reasonable of if you deserve a ticket.

Has anyone here been issued a ticket for going 70 in a 65? Anyone? Bueler?

Funny (the Buehler reference ). Most officers will not ticket under those circumstances, they are given a bit of discretion even with a posted limit. They don't stop everyone they see that doesn't follow the letter of other traffic laws, as well.

I just don't see why a ticket would be issued for going 1 MPG over, most speedomters are not 100% exact.
I think if you are doing 70, driving agressively, tailgaiting, then sure you should be pulled over, but if you are crusing by yourself in the fast lane at 70 then it would be the officers discretion?

Saying you probably won't get a ticket for going 5 MPH over a posted speed limit is not the same as saying there are no maximum speed limits. Yes, there are. And yes, you will get ticket if you overly exceed them. Trying going 80 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. There is discretionary allowance and there's flat-out going too fast for the posted speed limit.
