Default Liberal towns in Arizona

Are there any liberal areas (both politically and socially) in Arizona? I'm especially interested in any progressive small towns.

I would say Ahwautkee is one of the liberal towns. Chandler has a pretty good population of them too.

Mesa and Gilbert tend to be Conservative.

Not Yuma. Flagstaff, perhaps.

Tucson is liberal for sure. In general Arizona is a more liberterian state. They are true Republicans and represent the ideals of Goldwater. Sadly though a lot of neo-cons have moved in. I think Tucson is definitely your best bet.

Sedona is a smallish (population: 10,000) liberal town. Flagstaff and many of the smaller towns in the mountains around it are probably the most liberal portions of the state. In the 2004 election, while the Northeastern counties of Apache and Santa Cruz voted by the largest margin in favor of Kerry, this is chiefly for economic reasons, and the area is not very socially liberal. Elsewhere in Arizona, while Tucson is more liberal than Phoenix, I wouldn't say it's necessarily a liberal city. It leans more liberal than conservative but not by a huge margin like other urban centers. Phoenix as a whole is very conservative for a large city. Maricopa County (of which Phoenix is a part) voted 57% for Bush in the last election which is higher than Arizona's 55% total given for Bush. Within the Phoenix area though, Tempe is pretty liberal due to ASU and the Chandler and Ahwahtukee areas are as well. The rest of metro Phoenix treads moderate to conservative. The other smaller cities of Arizona like Yuma, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City and such tend to be even more conservative.

I don't know I think with more Californians coming in, I think more liberals are coming from there.

For sure Sedona is liberal.

Don't forget Bisbee and Jerome, probably the most liberal of any other town mentioned. I have a home in Sedona. I would call it mixed politics. Larger cities: Flagstaff and Tucson. Of the Phoenix and burbs, Downtown and Tempe. Avoid Gilbert (6th most conservative) and East Mesa.

Yep Gilbert and East Mesa conservative for sure. I should know I'm one of those hardliners. But just about anywhere else you will be fine.

I think we are hanging on here in Gilbert, for the most part and maybe half of Mesa
