I'm wondering if it is worth hauling a couple of horses to Lake Havasu for the winter. If anyone knows about boarding facilities or riding trails please let me know.
Thanks!

Try doing a yahoo search for "lake havasu city horse stables" there is 2 listed. Also I am sure there is riding trails when you get out of the main city area. At least the weather is starting to cool off now. Still hot here but were expecting low 90's this weekend

Default Moving to Lake Havasu this Winter

I would be happy to take the 90's. We're expecting snow and 45 degrees on Wednesday. I looked at our 10 day forecast and it doesn't look much better! My husband would love to know if fishing is a big thing in Lake Havasu in the winter? He would like to bring his boat but didn't know how active fishing is on the lake or the Colorado River during the winter months.

Yes there are boarding facilities in Lake Havasu its in the North East part of town right on the edge of town so you are close to the open desert and there are alot of trails to ride on but you will be sharing some trails with quads and jeeps but not all of the trails are that way. PM me if you need more nfo.

Fishing the desert lakes in winter can be rather frustrating. You freeze your tail off until the sun gets up a bit around 10. The water temps get down in the 50s and the bite gets slow. Having said that, there are always guys who seem to do OK. I guess they know more than me. Havasu is tough too, because it always seems to be windy. It's not the kind of wind that bothers you on shore, but in a boat you are always bobbing around and fighting waves/whitecaps. The channel area is calm and there are sheltered coves. Still, a bad day on the water is better than nothing. Me, I'd bring the boat.

Thanks Havasu for the info on the stables. My husband and I are coming down for a week in October so I will definitely check out the boarding facilities.
Ponderosa, do you know if there are any local fishing shops?

Hi, just read your post. I am also thinking about bringing my horse for several months this winter. I live in Oregon. I am also going to be in Havasu the first two weeks of October. Did you find any useful information on boarding a horse? Thanks

Never heard of folks horseback riding in Havasu. Might check Parker just a little south of there. It seems a little more country any ways down there.

There are two bait and tackle places that I can remember. They also have fishing guide services there and, if you have the money to pay them - I don't , these guys are really useful. You could spend a lot of time beating the water to learn what they can teach you in a day.
