Regressive Arizona Taxes And Utilities
I voted "yes" as a "renter" in the past year in three different properties, since my Utilities were very high, as was the Internet bill. Much higher than they would be in Arizona, New Mexico, or California.
More power to the Tea Parties. Arizona City Councils think they can get away w/ raising impact fees, adopting tax policies similar to West Coast Rich Liberal cities such as Berkeley and Portland. However, that philosophy doesn't work here, because the average household income is one half that of many areas in the bay area.
I came from the West Coast, and could see from day one that there was unacceptable unemployment, given the abundant resources (copper, timber, agriculture land). Why the politicians, many of whom also came from the Coast, can't see this and favor The Rich with their regressive taxes such as Impact Fees, I have no idea.
I hope Senator Russell Pearce R-Mesa can slash Impact Fees somehow, he tried last summer, but the Governor refused to sign.
Strange - because a Liberal in Seattle under unemployment and poverty similar to Arizona would cut excess regressive taxes. So the AZ Governor is not a Liberal by Seattle standards, which are also textbook standards dating back to Adam Smith, the first Liberal Economist (1700's).

No, I was not "shocked" by my tax bill. Not in the least.

I just paid $1,900 on a $300K house. That would cost me double or triple that in CALIFORNIA, PENNSYLVANIA OR NEW JERSEY. I'll take Arizona taxes over a lot of others

Yes, I'm always shocked at how low our property tax bills are in Arizona.
