Maybe Northern AZ is pretty or something, but Phoenix and Tucson aren't so great. Don't ya just love those dust storms and 110 degree days? LOL!
That's even before we start talking about what people have done to both places, LOL!
Oh yeah, and don't forget that "beautiful" drive on I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson past Picacho peak. Lovely dust pits and cotton farms. Just lovely.

Many of the prettiest parts of AZ are not in "northern" AZ. They are very near or within one hour of Tucson and Phoenix. Shows how little you know about this state.

Hey, those earlier Washington pix certainly do look like Arizona in some areas! Wow! I would've never EVER believed that!

Yeah, the difference between Eastern and Western Washington is DRAMATIC. It's a textbook example of that "rain shadow" climate effect you may remember from back in high school science class. All that ultra-wet air coming in from the Pacific dumps like mad on the west side of the Cascades Mountains giving us rainforests (ever wonder why it's called the "Cascade" range? - it's all those waterfalls we've got) - and by the time the air makes it across the mountains, there is virtually no moisture left in it - so the other side of the state is dry, dry, dry - with tons of sunshine and rattlesnakes (NO poisonous snakes AT ALL on the West side of the Cascades (only place in the "lower 48" without any at all)). We REALLY love it over there (and spent many a summer vacation near Steamboat Rock (photo #3)) and would retire there in a heartbeat except that while it's very toasty warm in the summer, it's FREEZING cold in the winter! In that regard it's just the opposite of Seattle (where weather extremes are very rare).

Just like EVERY state, the Midwest has gorgeous areas and not so gorgeous. Arizona is blessed with many beautiful areas, indeed, and many ugly areas, too. And even then, areas one finds "flat and ugly", might be gorgeous to other people.

While I agree that the I-10 drive between Phoenix and Tucson is not very pretty, I have to disagree with you about the area around Tucson. The desert along the Catalina Foothills is just beautiful - and remarkably lush and green (especially considering it's a desert).

I agree. The area immediately around Tucson has some of the best scenery in AZ (city wise)! The drive between PHX and Tucson? Not so much. The worst drive in AZ is along 40 between Flagstaff and Gallup, NM. That is very flat, very barren, very dusty, very, very, very boring.

If I was a religious type, I'd say I felt like I was in the presence of God.

I may be kind of biased, but I do think Northern Minnesota is the most beautiful part of the state (That pic from Lutsen that you posted was nice as well). Down in the Twin Cities, there's not as much for natural scenery.
