Surprise, AZ burglaries???
Hi, my wife and I just moved to Surprise from WI and bought a house. We already had 2 home security ppl come by to try and sell us security systems, and both said AZ has the highest rate of home invasions in the country and that most ppl here at least know of someone who's home has been broken into. I understand they're just trying to make a sale but is this true? We don't really live by the ghetto in El Mirage either. I like to keep the sliding glass door open when I'm home too. As stupid as this sounds, is this safe? Do u guys know ppl who's been burglarized? Do I need to get my wife a shotgun and a couple rotweillers? We have 2 american pitbulls but they would probably lick a burglar to death. Sorry for being paranoid. I'm much more conscerned about her, not me... THX!

I wouldn't worry about the home invasions or leaving the sliding door open (you are talking about a walled backyard?), but burglaries are relatively common - more so in new neighborhoods with new people moving in and/or "churn". I can name someone who was burglarized, but it was about 25 years ago. Can't think of anyone since then.
I've never had an alarm - never been burglarized. I suppose they work for the paranoia.

1 The FIRST rule of Marketing, create a Need. Frighten you into needing an alarm.
2. Do you have any idea who these people you are inviting into your home and discussing your security with are?
3. I would be more worried about that Alarm Salesman than the "Ghetto" in El Mirage
4. What would they steal in Surprize Moderator cut: hostile langauage ?

Insurance salespeople will tell you all about life expectancies, accidents, and every other doom & gloom situation which is possible in life. Security salespeople will tell you all about crime in your city and general area! They're not going to sugarcoat it... because then you may not buy their products!
You might want to get your info from other sources - as well.

Check for yourself - Official Website - Surprise, Arizona . Crime maps for the city of Surprise. Most cities have these online nowadays.
As for the home invasion thing - search the Phoenix forum for previous posts. Virtually 100% of these involve people that are involved in criminal activity already. VERY rare for one of these to involve an unknown (or completely innocent) victim.

Just get a Brinks or ADT sticker and sign. Stick the sign in your front yard, and the sticker on a window in the back yard. You will be good to go.
I wouldn't worry about burglary. My dad lived in El Mirage in the newer neighborhood since 2003, he just moved this past may. Never had a problem with burglary. Crime was a big issue there, but not on our street.
I don't think you have anything to worry about in Surprise. Don't leave your garage door open, and when you buy something new that is expensive, don't expose it. That is usually the motivation to get robbed. They know you have something of value, versus just a fluke. it is usually a punk kid the kids bring home. Reason why my dad never let any of my brothers friends come over. Lol

I worked fot ADT for a while when I got laid off,
Moderator cut: not allowed on C-D but it's a good deal if you need an alarm, free install and cheap monthly rates, and it does bring down the cost of your insurance.

We leave our windows and doors open when we go to the store and never have had any trouble. We have an alarm, but don't use it. We have heard of a recent breakin in our development, but they are few and far between. I feel very safe here.
