Looking to possibly move to Flag and wanted to know what are the hottest places that are hiring? I'm a Marketing and Sales gal with a degree, 20 years experience, earning $100k +.

If you are already in Carefree, I'd assume you have some familiarity with Flagstaff. The economy/job market in the smaller cities, as I've read here, is in many respects worse than in the larger metro areas. I would doubt that there are any "hot places that are hiring" there to pay you anything close to what you are making now.

Are you looking for a small town? If you're looking for sales / marketing work, check out OTHER small towns w/ low unemployment such as Boulder, Colorado for more choices, or one of the other suburbs around Denver . . . Flagstaff doesn't want to grow, and it's very sad . . .

Flagstaff Growth

It is unfortunate that many college towns with a concomitant industry of tourism or government limit their growth, resulting in increased rents and high unemployment.
Examples include the usual suspects of Flagstaff and Santa Fe NM, two towns who lack a Superwallmart and many other prominent Big Box stores found elsewhere.
Or, look at south lake tahoe, where people have to drive an hour just to get to big box stores in Carson City.
Residents in towns in the Owens and Antelope Valleys along the Eastern Sierra (such as Bishop, Lone Pine, Mammoth Lakes) have to drive hundreds of miles to Carson City or Lancaster/Palmdale for big box stores.
People in Salida, Colorado have to drive 3 hours over a high mountain pass to get to the Home Depot in Pueblo, although they do have a Wallmart in town.
Yucca Valley: driving 20 miles down into to Palm Springs isn't that bad. The last I heard, Target and a SuperWallmart are going in (the current YV Wallmart is being remodelled).
If I was on a City Council, I'd make sure that children and families had access to recreation, good schools, *AND ALSO* cheap food, consumer goods, and building materials. What made this country great was Capitalism, with unrestricted growth, and unlimited expansion of businesses to meet *DEMAND.*
I think the majority of people in Flagstaff agree, since they voted against the City Council's Anti-Big Box ordinance. The people want a Superwallmart, Frys Electronics, Whole Foods, Pep Boys Auto, a second Chilis near the Mall, and another Kohls on the east side of town. The Woodlands Village complexes that are now empty would be profitable from the NAU students with a Port of Subs, another GNC, Trader Joes, REI, and another movie rental place to replace the bankrupt one.

This poster hasn't been back since the day this thread was started. I thought it might have been a joke then, I really think so now.
