I should have also pointed out that of the 10-12 RN jobs posted on the hospital websites, almost all of them were in specialty areas such as nursing management, NICU, ER, or OR and wanted experience in that specific area.

Again, I am not trying to discourage you, I just wouldn't want you to go on out to AZ, lease an apartment, and then realize that you either can't find a job or you are getting called off for low census. If and when you do get an interview, make sure you ask them how the census numbers have been and how many times, on average, the RNs in that dept. get called off. It could make or break if you can pay your bills or not.

Good luck, and I hope you find a great nursing job in AZ!

You may want to search Jobs and housing in Lake Havasu. It is a growing and vibrant area. On the Colorado River, definately a party town, with lots of California transplants. Very mild winters, rather hot summers. Not far from Laughlin, Nevada with Vegas style casino's, and entertainment.

As another Michigan resident, who also has a wife in school to be a nurse. We looked into Az as a possible relocation in the near future. I know a higher up at Banner health and was told that there has been more than one hiring freeze over the last two years. I've also heard that things are not as pretty perfect out there as many seem to think and it's gotten pretty bad as far the the economy goes as well. Our plan is to stay here at least 2 more years and see where we are at in that time. Best of luck to you on your move and career and like everyone else has mentioned have a job prior to your move.

Thanks to everyone for helping. I will definitely secure a job before moving. I figure that Arizona isn't doing any worse than Michigan right now in finding employment. It's the same over here, hiring freezes and layoffs.
