Window Tint
Hello all in the forum. My vehicle registered in Louisiana and I live in AZ, my window tint is illegal. Now can I still get cited even though my vehicle is registered out of state? Thanks in advance.

If you live permanently in AZ and your vehicle is registered in another state you'll get a ticket for not registering your vehicle in AZ along with a ticket for any illegal tinting. You have up to 10 days from permanent residency to register your vehicle, and get a new DL, otherwise you're in violation of AZ motor vehicle laws.

Thanks for the info but I am military and I think (not sure) that I can keep my LA drivers license and tags in LA. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Good question, Travis.
An illegal tint makes you "fair game" for the cops to stop you regardless of the registration. Once stopped you are then subject to other violations both miner and major.
Bottom line . . . WHY TAKE THE RISK?

I don't have any other violations but I have always had dark tint....if I get cited I am fine with that, I just was wandering if there were any loopholes. Thanks for your input.

What have you done to tint your car that is illegal? I've got limo tint on my car. I was moving out of Utah when I had it applied, and while illegal there, it's never been a problem here.

You can keep both your licence and tags.
I think that if you live/have tags in a state you still have to follow the local laws. If you have LA tags and are driving cross country you won't be bothered. If a cop feels he needs to pull you over (in town) he can say that he pulled you over because he thought your windows were to dark. (maybe he thought you were drunk and needed an excuse) Call base legal and ask them.

Sorry, Travis, I wasn't implying you have other violations.
Here in Arizona it is wise not to offer an obvious reason for being stopped.

I basically have limo all around, with an overlay on my windsheild, and I have yet to be stopped by the cops.
I wouldn't worry about until you're stopped, when and if you do, they will give you a "fix it ticket" and all you have to do is remove the tint, or find pictures of your car BEFORE you had the tint to show the court and they'll dismiss the ticket.

Here's the parameters:
Arizona Tint Law Enacted: 1994
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN ARIZONA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Arizona, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
WindshieldNon-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows:Must allow more than 33% of light in.
Back Side Windows:Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window:Any darkness can be used.
Generally, military personnel based in AZ (who were not already AZ residents) are not considered AZ residents for purposes of drivers' license, vehicle registration.
