Bloody Basin road, not far from Table Mesa road off the 17 is a favorite of mine. Sounds like something from a gory horror movie. I love it. Also if you exit bloody basin to head toward Crown King (I LOVE CROWN KING), you will go through a tiny town called Bumble Bee, AZ. Kind of a strange place name I guess. Also I had to wheel my way to Chrysotile, AZ ghosttown in Gila county. Named after Chrysotile Asbestos of which there was a mine there, Since I make my living in the asbestos abatement trade, it caught my interest. There are a lot of amazing and interesting places in this state if you are willing to go off the beaten path.

There wasn't much there besides a gas station, where we met some really interesting, but nice people.
Peeples Valley is named for prospector A. H. Peeples, who was the leader of the group that discovered Rich Hill, a gold deposit at Weaver, Arizona, in 1863 - Wikipedia

Tuba City:

The written history of the town dates back more than 200 years. When Father Francisco Garcés visited the area in 1776, he recorded that the Indians were cultivating crops. The town was named after Tuuvi, a Hopi leader. Chief Tuuvi converted to Mormonism circa 1870, and invited the Mormons to settle near Moenkopi.

Tuba City was founded by the Mormons in 1872. Tuba City drew Hopi, Navajo and Paiute Indians to the area because of its natural springs. In 1956, Tuba City became a uranium boomtown, as the regional office for the Rare Metals Corporation and the Atomic Energy Commission. The mill closed in 1966, and reclamation of the millsite and tailings pile was completed in 1990. - Wikipedia

Picacho Pass.
Off to the northeast of I-10, its claim to fame is being the site of the westernmost serious engagement between Union and Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War.
12 Union Calvary under Lieutenant James Barrett were in the area checking out rumors of a Confederate force in the area when they surprised a detachment of same at the foot of Picacho Peak. A short battle ensued in which three Union soldiers including Barrett were killed. No Confederates were killed and only two injured but three were taken prisoner.
After that set-to, the Confederate force under Captain Sherod Hunter quit the territory shortly thereafter.

I detest that 15 mile stretch from Wilhoit to Prescott. I love switchbacks but that is the worst. Not even steep, just absolute overkill that made me sea sick. For now on, Skull Valley to Chino Valley on Iron Springs Road.
