We just bought a lot there, about eight miles outside of town to the east. Lots of pines, gorgeous weather, four seasons, but no extremes.

Prices are going up, and it is a resort sort of place. The population about triples in the summer. Can't say much more, we move in about Nov. 1.

I have visited the area many times. It is great in the summer because it is at a higher altitude than the lower part of the state. They do get snow in the winter and that keeps the people in the lower half as summer visitors. I have thought about moving there many times...just never got up the nerve. Maybe when my wife retires, who knows.

I have been there lots of times my folks live there. There is a lot of retired people and nices places to live. There are basically two types of people there retired and POOR. Navajo county is the poorest county in AZ. Lots of crystal meth. If you have a family maybe some things to be concerned about but other than that weather is great lots to do. Dont get me wrong there is some middle class there but take a drive and you will see how many mobile home and trailor parks I am talking about. Trailors that have 330K cabins right next to them, go figure on who does the zoning up there??? With all that to the side it's a nice friendly area with a lot of outdoor activities to do.

Your assessment seems a bit harsh if it refers to Show Low. It is a pretty little town, and one of the reasons we picked the area to move into was the lack of dumpy trailers and hobby ranches. Sure, there is some of that, but not nearly as much as other places we visited. We got a rural lot on a small development of manufactured houses that has strict standards including no horses. The dope is said not to be a probem in Show Low, but we were told that Holbrook has a serious meth problem.

Default drug problem

there is a big problem at both high schools in this area, anyone who says there is not is blind to it. talk to the schools and police, it is here! the area is a beautiful area there are very few trashy areas. you do have very nice site build homes next door to a trailer or manufactured home, but they to are in nice condition.

question - does anyone have any other comments about the safford/morenci area? please comment on the morenci post. thanks

I'm sorry to hear that we may have been mislead on the drug problem in Show Low. I'm going to have to be more forceful in my inquiries.

I have lived in the southern part of Arizona for the past twenty years. Too hot here for me. I have vacationed in Showlow/Pinetop area many times. It is much cooler than where I live. I got real serious about wanting to live there but it is expensive if you live on S.S. and a modest pension. You need extra income. It used to be less expensive but like any place with nice weather, once others start moving there the demand causes the prices to skyrocket. I would love to live there but just can't afford it. If you have an above average income, it would be heaven on earth, as far as I am concerned.
