I wouldn't recommend Yuma to anyone. Yuma is a suburb to nowhere with big-city crime. There's about 90,000 people in the middle of nowhere, a lot of them uneducated and uncultured — Yumans celebrate "growth" with new Applebee's, Wal-Marts, and malls; typical suburban malaise. Traffic is atrocious, thanks to the snowbirds and their RVs and mopeds. (Snowbirds are people from the northern states trying to escape winter in the desert. They mostly live in trailer parks.) Yuma also smells, thanks to all of the farming. It also has a 8.9% sales tax — the highest in the state. I've been here 8 months to take my first "real" job out of college from the Midwest and while the job is fine, I find that Yuma is pretty crappy. I'm aiming to escape sometime this winter.

Hello, it is true that Yuma is hot but nothing that a good air conditioner can resolve. Be possitive.

BEWARE - Yuma is no place to live. Please read and re-read the posting from Old Surrender here. This is soooo true. I also moved here straight out of college to take a job. I have regretted the move from my first week here. I am making my escape in August - FOR SURE. It is too hot and yes, an air conditioner can help, but you will pay for the privilege of trying not to fry in the heat. The electricity is not cheap.
The hispanic people here are soo rude - maybe it's the heat? The snowbirds are pushy and really terrible drivers.
I would say run, not walk, away from Yuma as fast as you can. There is nothing here for you unless you want a hot, rude, nasty, smelly place to live.

I moved to yuma from San Diego,BTW I am hispanic.
About 2 years ago,let me tell you.I love Yuma.
In the winter,besides the traffic.Which happens mostly on 32nd street and 16th street.This place rocks,its awsome for off roading,golfing and fishing.
In the summer,while it is hot,going for a swim in your pool,or going to the beach in San Diego for the weekend rules.
The people I work with,both white and brown are great,family oriented people.
My daughters school is tops(better than CA) and traffic in summer is very,very mild.
Even in the winter traffic is nothing compared to phoenix,san diego or los angeles.
In other words,if your body can tolerate the heat in the summer(mine does),you are not a RACIST and dont mind living in a community thats basically 1/2 white 1/2 hispanic and like golfing,boating,off roading and fishing.YUMA IS FOR YOU.
If you are a city slicker,then go to L.A. and get stuck in traffic 3 hours a day,while I play golf.
