I SAID "YOU PEOPLE!!!"....now I will be labeled a homophobe for sure......

Homophobe is a measured and restrained way of putting it. You should be happy you weren't called a more appropriate name.

I think of Arizona as more a libertarian state than a Republican state....which may mean it's more tolerant than a hardcore Republican state may seem...not a lot of Bible-thumpers here and not really narrow-minded in the big cities...more of a leave-me-alone attitude, in general....

and with the very transient and diverse population, a healthy mix of attitude and tolerance exists, at least in the two major cities....but, as with anywhere, all types exist and you may encounter some bigotry....easy to avoid, of course

I think the OP will be fine in Phoenix or Tucson....there are gay hiking groups, men's discussion groups, social, the whole bit....

the primary LGBT groups in Phoenix and in Tucson:

One Voice Community Center | 1vcc.org
Wingspan - Southern Arizona's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center

Lina is right about racists, prejudice and jobs in the Yavapai area...as well as the rest of AZ.

There are at least 3 well known chapters of white supremists in Yavapai county. We almost bought a place there until we observed certain behavioral traits in the people we had to deal with in stores, restaurants, etc. Plenty of mexicans but if you saw their demeanor....it would make you sad...very submissive; almost invisible they are so low profiled.

Phoenix has at least 7 known chapters of Supremists and Tucson 4. I keep up with these people because I HAVE to...as a Black woman, married to a white male, I would hate to have to go to jail to defending myself or my husband.

Problem is, Arizona isn't friendly to anyone who isn't a bonifide, anal retentive , conservative. You just gotta find your space and make your stand if you want to live here or can't leave.

I love how non-gays are commenting about gay life in Arizona. The only member of this forum who is openly gay is fcorrales so why don't you ask him how gays are treated in Arizona. Based on what I've read of fcorrale's posts, Phoenix is one of the most gay friendly citie in the country

I can comment on gay life because I worked for many of the wealthy gay folks from Flagstaff to Bisbee (they treated me with more respect than the hetero populations). It's no cake walk for anyone here but if he connects with the areas gays who have businesses he may do just fine.

I realize that I have been labeled on this forum as a bigot and a homophobe because I have religous convictions against that lifestyle.
And I also know that I can at times employ sarcasm as a reaction to that.
Understand...I am not a bigot, I do not believe in treating folks wrong even if I disagree with them.
I believe in Human rights for all....I am not a fan of special civil rights for anybody.
I belive that gays are in direct violation to the Word of God, and the lifestyle is a sin. If you dont agree with me on that ...thats alright...doesnt make you a moron and it doesnt make me a bigot, it is simply our position on this issue.
I do take umbrage with the homosexual lifestyle being shoved down our throuts...I get tired of being labeled things just because I disagree with an issue, I dont feel that school systems have any right to teach my children that the gay lifestyle is acceptable, just as most of you dont want the Bible taught as doctrine in the school...I dont want public (read my money) funds to be used to promote the homosexual agenda....just as many of you dont want public money used to promote a Christian world view.
I do believe that marraige is and should be between a man and a woman...not a man and 2, 3, or more women, or a man and a goat, or 3 or 4 people or a man and man, or a woman and a woman.

If you dont like that stand....tough.

But it doesnt make me a bigot....

In truth I love people and that includes gays...I dont treat anybody wrong, I try to be Christian to all...

But at the same time I as an American believe I have the right to voice my opinion ...and will continue to do so.

And you have a right to call me what ever you want to.

And if you disagree with me that doesnt make you an idiot....but if you continue to label me as a bigot....well than maybe you are an idiot.

And I expect as has happened before that some moron will get on here and suggest that I really am a suppressed gay man because I am so adamantly opposed to the lifestyle...

Whatever!!!

If you do that you really are a moron.

when you deny equal rights granted under a contractual arangement because you do not agree with their lifestyle you are a bigot and you are the one imposing and shoving your values down the mouths of others

would you deny a gay person from taking out a home loan? signing an employment contract or entering into any other civil arangement that is deemed legal and standard? Should we not allow gays to buy guns, CCW, hunt, fish, drive cars or do anything that requires a state sponsored license?

if so at least you are a consistent bigot

if not, then why shouldn't a gay person be able to sign a civil, legal contract, with another single individual where they make certain agreements. For these agreements they get the same (not greater, the same) benefits as anyone else entering into the same contract including being able to file taxes jointly, able to use household incomes on loan applications, be eligible for insurance benefits as a spouse and obtain rights of survivorship. With that they would also be subject to the courts to disolve this contract through a civil divorce proceeding if thigns don't work out - something that 50% of those who enter into such a contract currently get to experience.

You can keep and protect your religious beliefs. No one is asking or mandating that churchs recognize gay marriage, perform gay marriage or that gay marriage is recognized in any celestial manner.

However, for the legal contract that is marriage it is pure discrimination to preclude gays from this.

I have no idea why so many people are opposed to someone signing a legal contract with another individual.

There are a lot of things that I don't like and lifestyles I don't agree with. I just don't feel the need to block them from having the same legal rights that I do.
