Default Bullhead City vs Laughlin,NV

I'm curious as to why Bullhead City has 4 times the popluation of Laughlin just across the river in Nevada....I thought taxes are cheaper in NV ? ....Laughlin has a popoluation of approx 8,500 ...whereas Bullhead City has a population of almost 40,000 ....people prefer to live in Arizona ? ....also what is the attraction of Bullhead City anyway ? ...it seems to be growing fast ....and it's summers are the hottest in AZ ....average high temp in July is 112 degrees ....6 degrees hotter than Phoenix !!

Its funny because we have heard the same thing!!! We are looking to move to Laughlin and we have heard it is cheaper in NV but we also noticed that the bulk of the Pop lives in Bullhead. We are looking at new houses in Laughlin..it is growing and the sub-divisions they are building are very nice..but its at a much slower rate then bullhead....We saw what looks like entire communities going up over night in the hills of bullhead. We would also like to know which is the better deal before we move there. Maybe somebody will give us the inside scoop..(:

I'd Love to hear input on Bullhead City as well. What kind of job industry is out there? How are the schools? I heard there are many new developments going in. Are most of the people moving there for retirement, or is it a good place for a family. Any input would be appreciated.

BHC is older and much more established, and has commercial and industrial supporting areas. BHC has been around for many years, and was home (at least temporarly) for many of the people who built David Dam in the 1950's. Aside from the casinos, Laughlin has not had much else to the "city" -- until recently. Most of the people who work in the casinos live in BHC or the "Golden Valley" (which is just outside Kingman). Also, there might be specific water rights issues -- which is why they cannot build any more casinos in Laughlin at the moment. Perhaps there is a similar limit on new residental also? Being different states, they may have different water access rights.

As a side note, do more searching on BHC before you decide to move there.

BHC is a bit hotter than Phx. We had a relative who recently moved from there to OK. She worked in the casinos as did her friend/roommate. I just remember her saying that it gets 120+ many days during the summer. =)

People live in Bullhead because housing is cheaper and all shopping is on BH side of the river except the resturants in the casinos. Why people would put their money into 400-500g homes in BHC is beyond me! BE VERY CAREFUL IF THINKING OF MOVING! There's nothing to do here unless your at the river or in a casino which is fine if on vacation. But I know from 1st hand experience that grows old real fast. Schools are horrible if you have kids! Wages are at the bottom of barrel here. Casino workers including dealers make avg.$min.wage if they're lucky. waitreses etc.$2-3 hr. Everyone who has to work in service industry relies on tips to feed thier families. There's drugs on every corner. But if you like a wind chill of 120+F & Meth dealers on every corner come on out!

I think that a lot of the land in Laughlin is state owned. There is a huge power plant that just recently shut down and the land it's on is being discussed, however it has been told that it will take many years to clean up the land prior to any use. There are a ton of jobs in Laughlin at the Casinos. The pay isn't that great either. Most working in Laughlin don't live there. Laughlin is in Clark County, but you would never know it because Vegas would like to pretend it doesn't exist. Much like Phoenix treats the Bullhead/Mohave County area. It's almost like Vegas and Phoenix are their own states!!! Laughlin is finally building some new homes and they look great. Not sure of the prices, however it is probably comparable to Bullhead and vicinity. Laughlin Ranch is in Bullhead and some think they are the elite, however not true!! They can just afford to live in costly cookie cutter homes along with some nice custom ones. You would need to visit the area to see all the differences.

If any of you are looking to purchase a home in Bullhead City, there is currently a website that is auctioning off some brand new homes in Laughlin Ranch. I found this link when searching for a property out there: [urlmoderator cut[/url]

I'm considering placing a bid on one of the absolute auction homes because the minimum bids start so low AND the highest bid at the end of the day gets the property...even if bids end at 200,000!

On a side note, there is a TV show set to air in the fall on CBS called 'Viva Laughlin'. Hugh Jackman is the main character. Here's the link:CBS 2007 Fall Preview

The homes at Laughlin Ranch are terribly overpriced and the construction reflects that fact that they were built by illegal aliens that don't speak English. In other words, the construction behind the caulk and paint is very shoddy. I know someone who has a home there and it is crap.
