Arizona takes huge steps backward, throwback to the dark days of Mecham. (Parks: unemployment benefits, school)

It wouldn't be a reward if they are made to pay for it.
They are already a part of this economy...do you rreally think it's realistic that the Immigration is going to be able to find millions of people that are here illegally? And not to mention the major undertaking of sending them back? The goverment can't even find dead beat dads that are Americans and owe thousands in child support. Maybe if they concentrated on them....it would save our countries taxpayers a lot of money-a lot!
You raise a very valid point. The cost of finding and transporting illegals en masse back to wherever they came from is ridiculous. This country CAN'T find deadbeat dads, but yet some posters on here think they're going to be able to find all illegals? Laughable.
I also agree that the easiest thing to do would be to legalize the ones who are here, have them pay taxes just like the rest of us, and that extra fee you were talking about is a good idea too. The state could use the revenue.
Right now with a bunch of non-tax paying illegals all over the place this state is losing out on MILLIONS of dollars that it could gain by just legalizing them.
Bill, I wasn't trying to change the subject-just making a point.
Anyways, if it was that easy to round up all those people and send them back, don't you think they'd have tried to do it already?
I do not wish to keep debating this but I'll just say that some of us try to understand what others go through...then try and find a practical way to deal with it..not the way that just gets rid of them asap and find the next demographic to blame this country's problems on.
Wow, another one that can't stick to a single subject...
It's a comparison. If this country can't find most deadbeat dads who ARE US citizens, how do you figure they'll find MOST illegals? How would you go about find them? Ideas? Any?

All right, most... How would go about finding MOST illegals? Do you have border patrol checkpoints throughout Valley roads? Do you knock on doors like Jehovah's Witnesses asking people if they're here illegally?
I just have to chime in here because there are points that are being missed. As for the dead beat dads the reason they have a low find rate is look who's looking for them. People normally at the state level that really couldn't find their backside with both hands. In short they don't know what they are doing. They can be found. I would bet that well over 90% could be found.
Illegals are a drain on our economy and don't let anybody fool you. I read an article published in the Portland OR paper some years ago. They talked about what a benefit they were because of all the money they spend on food and other things. But when they are buying those things with forms of public assistance where the benefit. Some people think that they can draw any form of help. Don't think for a second that these Illegals are stupid.
I used to be a provider to the state of WA. What my company did was try to find out what transferable skills injured workers has so they could be retrained to return to work. Grant county WA has about 25% Hispanic population. A large portion of those are Illegals. It is amazing how many of them have real short careers. Many of them worked only a few days before being hurt on the job. I ran across several cases where the person worked part of one day then claimed they had hurt their back or something. Since they are automatically covered by workmans comp they are in fine shape. If they have a couple of kids they can collect around 85% of the money they would make if they were working. What I found interesting that with a Hispanic population of 25% why are over 50% of the people drawing workmans comp benefits Hispanic?
A lot of the ones that do work send money back to Mexico so that also draws from our economy.
How would you like to be an teacher and have 4 or 5 different languages going on in your classroom. It harms the quality of our education system which needs all the help it can get.
I wonder what would happen if a bunch of us decided the sneak into Mexico. When we got there we put up American flags refused to learn Spanish, demanded that the government print documents in english so we could read them. And expected their schools the teach our kids in english. The shoe is now on the other foot and it doesn't fit so well.
Why can't gas taxes pay for Highways? Why can't dog licenses pay for Animal Control. Why can't parents pay for their own daycare? Why does it seem like young women are encouraged and rewarded for having illegitimate babies? How come the County doesn't prosecute statutory rape, or marriage between first cousins? Why don't the schools expel disruptive students? Why do people on WIC have mobile phones and cable TV? Why do the local governments give health insurance to people who refuse to take care of themselves at all?
Look at the people at the DES office. If they would simply reduce the amount they receive by the amount they spend on cigarettes, fast food, and alcohol..............

They sure are a drain on our economy in many ways. They don't have medical insurance, but they still overcrowd hospital waiting rooms with their multitides of children they keep spitting out & have no financial means of affording them. Still, hospitals have to treat everybody who comes in, so it's a losing game for them unfortunately.

Because they are moochers! No other way to explain it.

Is it any wonder teachers are stressed out, and a declining number of people actually want to become teachers? It's not worth the effort (or the pathetic salary) for all the nonsense they have to contend with.

You know what would happen! It's a huge double standard when you come right down to it because it seems to be acceptable if the U.S. takes in everybody else's deadbeats who don't want to learn English or adapt to our culture ... but if we do the same in THEIR countries, it's a whole different set of rules. The bottom line is: anybody who migrates to another country had better learn that country's language and customs. It's called ASSIMILATING. Besides, it's simply good manners and respectful. Illegals and immigrant rights groups want everything their way, but then will claim racism when Americans become outraged.
Also, you're right about illegals not being stupid. Most of them are really a little too clever for their own good. A good example of this is their knowledge of the loophole in the Fourteenth Amendment, which grants instant citizenship to any child born in the U.S., even if the parents are not legal citizens. This is one reason they come over here and use the U.S. as a dumping ground for their anchor babies.
1. "Sheriff Joe" raids...X1000!! Arpio has the right idea, but he needs to do this WAY more often and have a much larger staff!
2. NO free health care...prove you're a legal resident before being seen at the hospital or doctor.
3. Agressively prosecute ANYONE caught hiring them. HUGE fines and jail time are warranted here.
4. Get rid of the "anchor baby" rules. If the parents are illegal, they're deported. If they want to take their US-born kid with them, great!
There are other things that could be done, but you get the idea. The point is we should NEVER reward someone (amnesty) for breaking the law. The minute you do that, you may as well take the fence down.

Pay taxes?? How? They don't pay taxes...they consume subsidies. What kind of work do you think people who have no education, who barely, if at all speak the language can do?? People who make minimum wage don't pay taxes any way. If illegals were to be rewarded with citizenship, they would immediately file for AFDC benefits, welfare, foodstamps, WIC program, be added to the long list of section 8 housing applicants, and exacerbate our already high unemployment rate; create a higher deficit, because our country doesn't have the budget to extend benefits to these people. Also, Obama will not be able to extend unemployment benefits forever. Eventually, there is going to be a collapse. A collapse which primarily caused be too many immigrants...illegal, or legal.
Mod cut: Rascist... Enforcing the current laws is all that needs to be done. Punishing anyone who employs "illegal" immigrants, with hefty fines, and/or jail time. Kick out all non-citizen children out of our school system. Deny all welfare subsidies to illegals, and take away the tax-exempt status the church enjoys if they continue to help illegals. And hopefully, give hospitals the power to refuse medical help to anyone who is illegal.
Our country is experiencing unemployment in excess of 10%, this would not be the case if we did not have such lax immigration laws to begin with. Foreigners believe they have the right to come here, and look for work, and acquire citizenship at free will.
Americans overwhelming do not want these people here. Yet our laws are not enforced. Most citizens believe if a child is born to a non-citizen, that child SHOULD NOT be granted U.S. citizenship. The citizenship of the child should be the same citizenship as the mother's.
