The fence is one big scam, we need troops

I think the problem is we read about this because of our proximity to the Mexican border. There is some exposure here, and we can take this in. I just read this too, and am totally outraged, I live in New Mexico. My family lives in New Jersey, my friends too. Guess what? No one has heard or read about this story there. In fact, it's only through me that they even have an idea about the mass carnage occurring on the streets in Juarez.

The American media is guilty of not effectively promulgating these stories. And I don't know why this is. If you go to the BBC's web site, they have reporters on site, reporting and writing about these stories with much more journalistic effort than we are in the United States. That's because our journalists are more content reporting on this ongoing health care debate. There is another very real problem here, and it's contributing to our health care, vis a vis higher health care premiums, and it's our inability to enforce our borders. I live 50 miles from the Mexican border. If you even try to go to our ER here at the hospital, good luck. It's perpetually filled with people with people who don't speak English. Undoubtably, most of those seeking care are from Mexico. This is really a story that should also be posted in the "Immigration" forum.

I don't think "immigrants" are suspect in this case. Drug smuggling and US guns is the problem. They say the guy was targeted because his brother told Border Patrol that drug smugglers were operating on the ranch.

Updated March 30, 2010

Robert Krentz was known among fellow ranchers as a good Samaritan who often helped injured illegal immigrants trying to cross the boiling desert border into Arizona. But the 58-year-old was gunned down while tending to his ranch Saturday morning, and police suspect an illegal immigrant was to blame.

Police have several scenarios of what might have occurred.
One, a drug cartel scout. The Chirachua mountains in southeast Arizona are 11,000 feet tall, rugged and remote. It is a popular drug corridor and the killer may have been clearing the way for a load of drugs moving north when Krentz surprised him.

Two, the suspect belonged to a band of thieves terrorizing the remote ranches spattered around the area — an idea supported by other ranchers.
"Two days earlier a 9mm and a 9mm Glock had been stolen from a home in Portal," said rancher Roger Barnett. "There is no way to know for sure it was the murder weapon. But the bullet the killed Rob and his dog was a 9mm."

Three, retaliation. The day before the killing, Krentz's brother Phil stopped a caravan of illegal immigrants carrying 280 pounds of marijuana. All eight were arrested by the border patrol and the pot was impounded.

The only way I see troops going there is if a rancher shoots an illegal. Then the US will send the military to protect the illegals.

It is probable that it was drug smugglers, although not for sure. There is plenty of other activity in this area. Unlike a lot of posters who know nothing about this area, I think having the Army here would help. The only people who seem to object to it are the militias, who have their own little Fascist agendas

im not the only cynic about the general American population. Sorry, but America has changed from we the people to me the person. This country has long lost its own interest as a country.

Back to topic, I still don't believe anything will happen and it will be old news a less than a month.
