Default Arizona Virtual Academy VS Connections Academy?

I am enrolling my homeschooled daughters in a virtual school for this fall. Has anyone found any websites or have any opinions as to which is the best virtual school between AZVA and Connections? Any experiences and comparisons would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi there-
There is an ongoing thread regarding this. Here is the link: Opinions Welcome On Arizona Virtual Academy. I have been with them for a year, my own experience hasn't been great, but I'm still hopeful.

Hi there. Have you considered looking at Marana Unified School District's program for homeschoolers? We partner with parents who homeschool their children in a variety of ways. If you're interested, you can find us at mdlp.org/marana

We wish you all the best in your homeschooling efforts.

Connections by far for me. Way easier for the kids to navigate. I did both. Any questions about them just pm me.

Default Special Education in Virtual Schools

I am interested in getting information about how students with IEPs can go to places like AZVA or Connections. If they are public schools, they have to provide special education services, but how do they do it? If the teachers are working from home, how do they give services?

I know that Connections Academy has a special education department. Teachers are aware of which students do have IEPs and then address those specific goals/objectives, accomodations, etc. Because the curriculum is so individualized, each student has an option of moving at a pace that is appropriate for them. For example, if a child needs more assistance on a specific mathematics concept, they can take longer on that specific lesson. Also, when taking part in state testing, all testing accomodations are met. Teachers also are available to learning coaches and students if any difficulties arise and conduct scheduled phone conferences and virtual lessons. IEP meetings take place as mandated, and are done with a phone conference for families who do not live in the vicinity of the centralized office. Also, while there are a few teachers who do work from home, the majority work out of a centralized office. I would definitely give them a call if you have any further questions.

Good luck!

Ok - Honestly, what are the differences between the 2. I have a kid entering High School. We have been in K12 for 4 years. High Schools sounds very strict, I am not against that, but does Connections offer anything better in High School. Who has been doing this longer do you know?

Default Differences

Hi,
My son is graduating this year from Connections Academy in Idaho.
There is a Yahoo Group for Connections Academy parents and you could probably get a lot of input between the two. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/connec...community/join
