That's what the new law does
Trust me: the mere threat of being rousted by LE is running illegal aliens off by the THOUSANDS every week

San Diego is not worried that Arizonans will boycott.
I live here in the Phx area and we are quite PISSED at those treasonous losers who 'run' or, is that MISrun things in San Diego, LA, SF, etc.

I live in Arizona too, and I am disgusted that people in Mesa would elect someone like Russell Pearce, with Nazi connections, who came up with these laws. The people boycotting are correct

All of us in favor of Arizona's law should make sure to support Arizona based businesses and Arizona tourism. It is unbelievable that during such hard economic times, anyone would purposely try to make a fellow state suffer economically any more than we all already have. I am a native Californian (moving back to CA in 2 months), raised in a very liberal family, and certainly not racist like some people in support of AZ's law have been accused of (my best friend is Mexican, fiancé is half Mexican). despite all this, I am team Arizona on this issue- something needs to be done and at least AZ is attempting to find a solution. If you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
As I've mentioned before, I don't even see what the controversy is all about. If I were to move to Mexico (or Guatamala or Nicaragua or whatever) I would want all my papers and affairs to be in order AND I would want to be able to speak Spanish (or whatever the native language) proficiently. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Personnaly I don't care if the queen of sheba shows up to support AZ. It doesn't have to be just "americans" whatever that really means. I'm sure there's french and english people who've seen what unbridled immigration has done to their countries and who'd sympathize.

Quite true but I'd bet those that have a vested interest in foriegn oil (money) wouldn't be getting paid as much or at all.

Ya gotta keep remembering the golden rule! He who has the gold makes the rules!!!

As has been said many times, it'd take a one page addendum to fix the issue. Hit the employers HARD for hiring 'em and that'd be the end.
I am not sure about that. Educated specialists in fields we need are denied visas. The family unification aspect of the 1965 law has caused a shift to the unskilled rather than each individual being processed not only for his desire to enter the US but also as to where he would match the needs of the society already established here. That would be self-serving. Now the 1965 law is not geared that way. It is not just enforcing current law but having laws that make sense for our future needs.

And the question really has to be addressed whether we want to continue to encourage assimilation or not--and how the immigration process will relate to that decision.

I doubt you'll be able to convince all 2 million to stay away. I doubt you can even make a difference that would cause anyone to notice.

San Diego and zonies were meant for each other.
Different summer, unemployment is still high, people are unsure what lies ahead the rest of the year, they're careful with their dollars. Not all two million will stay away but combined with the bad economy, stupid ideological decisions by local city councils can make things worse. Heck, it's not me who's saying that, it's the people in San Diego who work in tourism and actually know what they're talking about:

Still struggling from the prolonged economic downturn, San Diego’s visitor industry can ill afford to lose any of the 2 million Arizonans it counts on annually, said ConVis President Joe Terzi.

“We’re in a very tough environment already because of everything else going on, and we don’t need another negative impact to our industry,” Terzi said. “This affects all the hardworking men and women who count on tourism for their livelihoods, so we’re saying, don’t do something that hurts their livelihoods.”

Although the summer months typically are an economic bonanza for the San Diego visitor industry, the recession and continued high unemployment have eaten away at lodging revenue as hotels have steeply discounted rates to fill their rooms. The Convention & Visitors Bureau spent $9 million last year promoting the region for the spring and summer months and is dedicating $7 million toward that effort this year.
