If the smart investors come in at least (the Mother Rd)Rt 66 would be repaved and not disappear into the wilderness,I would tolerate a little plastic and bling to see that happen.

No, I do mean WEST of Oatman. We stopped at Oatman then turned around and headed back to Las Vegas so I've not even been east of Oatman. Thought that western stretch was pretty bad (lots of patches and disappearing on shoulders). If the eastern stretch is even worse it must be terrible indeed.

Of course it's not as bad as this stetch of road on the back side of Haleakala on Maui (it was apretty much 100% patches):

I just got back, from a trip on Route 66. One section of road, between Oatman and Kingman, is very narrow. There are signs up, no buses, ect. ect. (yes I've forgotten the exact wording)

I had to back up 3 miles, cause a big RV pulling a car, couldn't read signs. Next time, I'll do it on my motorcycle.

The new cement plant, called 'Seligman Crossing,' is proposed for a
location mid-way between Peach Springs and Seligman.
The Cemex Corporation announced their plans to bring a full-scale
cement manufacturing facility to northern Arizona Sept. 17. According
to representatives with Cemex, the facility, called "Seligman
Crossing," will be located between Seligman and Peach Springs along
the Interstate 40 corridor, roughly three miles from Route 66. An
opening date for the facility is currently slated for 2011, though
construction on the project could begin as early as 2009.

Ed Martin of Southwest Forest Products, Inc., pictured above, said the new mill in Ash Fork represents a long term economic boon for the area.

The October rain on freshly cut pine logs, five miles west of Ash Fork, is a sweet scent for many reasons. It is the location of Southwest Forest Products Inc. (SFP), a forest products mill that opened in July. The privately owned Phoenix company has created a bright spot at 8108 W. Old Highway 66.
