Hi donorth, do you have any specifics of Northern AZ, Central or Southern (Flagstaff, Phoenix or Tucson)? Any area more appealing to you than another - have you visited AZ? What kind of weather do you want in winter? When you say "live simply" - what do you mean by this exactly (by your own terms)?

I'm you are looking for a place where you can live cheaply and simply then it will most likely be an appartment or condo in a populated area where you wouldn't need to own a car.

I am not sure what your definition of simply is but mine means living in a place where there aren't tons of people, not a lot of traffic, everyone speaks English, most folks are friendly, home prices are great to where you don't stress over your huge house payment or rent being lower than most places, small town atmosphere, and I could go on! Coming from CA and moving to where I am now in AZ is living simply! I have most of what I have described, however I do need a car because there isn't much public transportation and there is no way you can walk to most things. In AZ the summers are very hot so you would not want to be outside and if you are older, to me that means 60+, you shouldn't be! The weather is different in the northern part of the state and it is beautiful, but it does get colder. I am currently doing some research in 55+ communities and finding out a lot of stuff prior to making a decision. I think if you are really considering AZ you might want to start checking out those kind of places first because the ammenties are there. It may be a little more pricey, however there is a lot to offer. It all boils down to what kind of money you have to spend and what kind of climate you want. Visiting an area numerous times and at different times of the year would be something to consider as well.

Everyone here has made some good suggestions. What works well for me is to write down a list of what is wanted in a home and community and then prioritize the list.

I would say Tucson, but housing price is getting pretty expensive, as it is in all the other cities in Arizona (Pheonix, Flagstaff, Sedona). I think that a small town, like Cottonwood (located in Northern Arizona about 20 minutes from Sedona) is your best bet. It's a BEAUTIFUL area- I lived there for 7 years. It's certainly a small town, but it's located relatively close to Pheonix and Flagstaff (about an hour and a half or two hours)! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask- I certainly know my way around that area. Hope this was helpful!

Some of you people just crack me up..........You all want to move here..for what? There is no water, Arizona is the second most corrupt state in America next to Rhode Island. Yavapai County is nothing but a continuing criminal enterprise. Rick Romely has his own attorneys whacked out because they were going to expose him for all those land fraud scams. All smart people of Arizona are relocating, they are deploying from this war zone out here. Independent surveys have proven for ten years that the water table here is at an alarming low and that it will not last another five years. Also for ten years they have been telling the Arizona politicians this.....well obvisouly. they are not listening....they wish not to listen because that means no money for them.
