Great question, Clownsrus . . .

The biggest misconception of all is that Arizona is one big ole HOT sandbox.

The higher elevations around I-40 (Flagstaff, Williams and The Canyon) are fairly moderate in the Summer and downright cold, including lots of snow, during the Winter months with the usual tall trees, etc.

Also, the Southeastern portion of the State (Bisbee and Douglas areas) due to higher elevations are much cooler and receive considerably more rain.

Even Tucson which is just under 3k feet is cooler and wetter than Phoenix.

Actually; the town of Snowflake was named after two local prominant familes named 'Snow' and 'Flake'. One of our state politicians is Jeff Flake.

Tucson city is not that much cooler than Phoenix; maybe 5 degrees difference and the average rainfall totals are only about 2" more.
