I recently got a job in Hot Springs and have to commute from Benton (at least 45 min). I want to get a place in town closer to my job, starting with probably just a room in a shared house or apt but eventually will want to rent a full house when the rest of my family comes out next year. My question is where are the neighborhoods that are safe and decent to live in and the ones I should avoid? I'm not looking for the upper-crust section of town, but I do want to avoid the ghettos, crackhouse, or meth neighborhoods. Anybody give me an idea of areas to look and areas to stay away from? I also wouldn't turn down outlying areas within 30min of downtown HS.

Not sure what your budget is, but I do know of one place that has a 1 br apt for around $540.

I have been driving from Hot Springs to North Little Rock this week, and after seeing the drive to and from Benton, I would just commute. It isn't a bad drive.

yes, commute! use more fuel, pollute the environment, and spend more time behind the wheel, so you can live in a town with less character, charm, entertainment and recreational options, and natural beauty. and in a dry county to boot! what a no-brainer!

It is only 30 minutes, at most for that trip. I am driving from Central Ave to Verizon Arena this week, and it only takes 45 minutes. I just think commuting until you can move your family would be much more economically feasible.

If you want to fond a place outside of the bad areas, you need to spend at least $500 a month
