All the country folk I know are very self sufficient (EVERONE here has a garden at least, even if they live in town), so putting you in just one area of Arkansas (NW) is silly. I think it is your "name" that says you are vegan, that makes everyone think you need to be near new age people. I do not eat meat, but my best friends live for deer season. In fact I have never seen such carnivorous people as here, but when they invite me for dinner they go out of their way to provide me with a delicious plate of veggies, AND they even leave the saalt pork out of the pinto beans (Southern Hospitality abounds). There is a forum called Homesteading Today that would answer all your questions along those lines. Good Luck!

tutu, I hope you realize the OP posted here over 2 years ago and has not been back. I doubt she is reading your message. I often wonder how these threads pop back up after so long and why?
