um ... so ... what about POCAHONTAS?
Hi, can anyone tell me some things about Pocahontas? As some may know, I'm on an Odyessy for my rural, "back-to-the-land" small farm... in an area where it doesn't matter what the color of your skin is.
I've been asking lots of questions and so far, most other black folks tell me to stick to areas just south/south west of Little Rock. Comments?
A priest-friend of mine advocated strongly for Conway, AK.
But I'm curious about that little area in and around Pocahontas. (I saw something .. um ... "on the internet" ... don't know how old it was... and it looked like a charming, peaceful little town.)
Feel free to give honest feed back no matter what the content.

Quiet & peaceful? Must have changed from my husband's experience. He worked for a military bomb squad that was constantly ordered there due to vendettas (involving homemade bombs) between neighbors/relatives. Any place with an abnormal number of bomb calls would not be on my potential places to live list.

I guess it has changed. In the past 2 years I have never even heard a whisper of things like that.

I don't know when this happened, I've lived in the Pocahontas area for the last 40 years. I've never heard of this. We have problems just like any small town but nothing compared to what is now going on in Jonesboro.

Well, this was quite some time ago, probably around 15 years (give or take a couple of years), when he was there.

I wouldn't be surprised. They typically didn't publicize their presence.

We had a bomb threat in the little town I grew up in once. Every single person in town knew about it. That's the thing about little towns. Secrets don't stay secret for very long.

Very true, but it also depends upon the parties involved and how distant/remote they are from said little town.

First, and I don't mean to belittle, but it's a pet peeve of mine....
AK = Alaska
AR = Arkansas
The media makes the same mistake at times and it drives me crazy.
Second, to somehow insinuate that Jonesboro has become Dodge City is laughable.
